Photographer's Note

Bucarest en 1989, juste avant la chute du mur de Berlin et avant le renversement du gouvernement roumain, les files d'attente aux portes des magasins alimentaires;
Maintenant au 1er janvier la Roumanie entrera dans l'UE, et je veux croire que ce sera un bien pour le futur malgré les énormes difficultés financières qui vont en découler pour la majorité des gens.
voir en WS, des personnes qui seront plus malheureuses.

Bucharest in 1989, before the fall of the Berlin Wall and before the inversion of the Rumanian government.

the line to the doors of the food stores; Now at January /01 Romania will enter the EU, and I want to believe that it will be a good for the future in spite of the enormous financial difficulties which will result from this for the majority.
in WS, people who will know more unhappy.

Bonjour Francine,
Merci pour cette image: je me souviens de cettes fils d'attente car j'etais souvent la, avec l'espoir que les produits ne se finissent pas avant que j'arrive devant. C'est une image que les nouvelles generations doivent voir!

Roumaine d'hier et Roumanie d'aujourd'hui !
Ces photographies d'hier et d'aujourd'hui de la Roumanie à la veille de son entrée dans l'Union Européenne nous font découvrir ou redécouvrir ce pays latin mal connu, fort de préjugés.

Hi Francine, these are very touching photos and give us a lot to think about. I was only 9 years old back then!

I like how this picture is in b&w and gives a feeling of a news photo, and then the one in the workshop is in color and feels more personal. It is a nice contrast. In the b&w photo, I think it might be better if you used the burn tool on the sky a little, because the trees are a bit washed out. But that might draw attention away from the people, so maybe it is best as is.

Hi Francine,

my love of old (ok 1989 isnt THAT old but atleast its older than 2006) documentary photos is again satisfied here. Infact looking at this shot, it brings me back to Poland of the 1980s when I lived there. This is Romania not Poland yet ofcourse in the old Soviet VBloc there really wasnt that much of a difference. The architecture, the people, this photo is great for me
