Photographer’s Note
"Wake me up..." if you want to buy and pay the chocolates!
Believe me or not, this lady was selling those chocolates that are on the wall. I came from down street and she couldn't notice me taking the chocolates from that side. (Mayber the begger is her partner.)
This is Ponte da Barca, a medieval town in the heart of the Portuguese northern old province of Minho. [The name Viana do Castelo that appear here on TE is a modern administrative division of that traditional province.]
I was thinking about cropping this picture, to 'remove' the beggar. But then I'd loose the notion of the context and that the lady is in a street. Futhermore this is a street that has many beggars, hawkers, hucksters (not all dormant...), etc. And it seems that he is actually controlling who wants to "buy" the lady's chocolates.
What do you think about cropping or not?

The positioning of the woman is masterfully done, Francisco. The addition of the man at right is also effective, and his face adds an interesting voice to this photo.

Francisco,
that's a good compo and a good note (particularly about hawking). The bagger is part of the story, but you could have told us another story, focusing the "lady in black" huckster.
Please take a look at the WS I made.
Regards,
Beijo

Abraço;

Grande foto!
Parabéns

This is an interesting photo. I think that without the cropping the picture provides an interesting story.

Olà Francisco,
Nice shot, you were just in time to take the pic of this sleeping lady, not worried by the fact someone could take the chocolates and escape ...
I know Ponte da Barca and also Viana do Castelo that I like very muc, beautiful town !
I was very often in Ponte de Lima.

Hi Franciso,
I was wrong, here's a whole page, much of which I haven't seen I really like the the way you've framed the shot with the contrast between the skinning, anxious beggar and the plump, Placid chocolate seller. The detail of the sleeping woamn is excellent.

I like the contrast you have between the seated lady (her solid and smooth black dress) and the harsh stone building. However, I found the rest of the photo distracting, so I decided to crop it to high light this contrast. In addition, i cropped it to form a diagonal line with her figure to visually cut the photo in half. I also tweaked the contrast and saturated the colors a little bit. Hope you appreciate the resulting photo.
