An earlier critique, on a similar image, commented that they would have liked to have seen more of the river. Well here it is! Taken from a moving cablecar across the Yangzi River. Passengers can be seen walking across the gang planks, in the foreground, to the docked ferries. The background is obscured by fog / smog.
Chongqing is a city of 10 million, in its' own province (also known as Chongqing) (population 30 million). Chongqing means 'double luck'.

Superbe prise urbaine!
Beau travail !

Spectacular POV Chris, ..really evocative with this "smog" effect..
have a nice day, Fabio.

Hi Chris...it was fog or pollution?
i red that in some big cities of China there are high problems of pollution, an Chongqing with that 30 Millions of inhabitants...
good POV to see the urban caos!
bantonbuju (51771) 2005-09-12 4:34
hi chris, what a scene! i like this aerial-like view of the place: curved hoghway on one hand, and somehow old-fashioned ferries on the other, and everything linked by the fog;
have a nice week,
fooeleen (713) 2005-09-12 4:34
wow...spectacular view. the fog made the mood quite sad.
papagolf21 (84602) 2005-09-12 5:38

Quite a spectacular and very atmospheric(it's all grimy!) urban capture, I love them like this. The smog with its strong colour gives the city this repellent feeling. The somewhat disorderly banks of the river second that. Moreover, the elevated road and tall buildings in the background implant this great feeling of urbanity. In any case I do love these kinds of urban photos, well done here.
Fixfocus (9385) 2005-09-12 5:49
The contrast between the city,-and the riverscape is amazing. The high pov gives a great overview and the fog creates a mystic mood.
jmdaoudal (82) 2005-09-12 5:52
There is a great interest in these river boats and individual floating piers and of course this is due to the planks.
Also the aerial modern road.
Amirsun (2122) 2005-09-12 7:57
What a nice atmosphere Chris!
Excellent point of view and great composition.
The boats are good elements in this images and I like them.
Tanks for sharing.
everlasting (14522) 2005-09-12 8:32
You have done well Chris to convey this urban scene. This looks awful, fog/pollution, those horrible high rises the vast motorway and then we go down to the river with its traditional boats. I wish the people in Chongqing lots of double luck.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2005-09-12 8:45
hdl (6995) 2005-09-12 9:59
Hi Chris, it looks pretty dramatic to me. The highways around the riverborder are quite impressively built. Quite honestly, it doesn't look like a place where I would like to live; the fog is even adding to that feeling. The city may not be, but the picture is very well balanced and composed. Thanks for showing us.
Kenny10pin (19301) 2005-09-12 10:21
great work here Chris, well shot and great roads here, it would be a shame if the Tsunami did hit this place, good one

Great PoV for this river. It looks quite spectacular. The fog between the houses and the river is also very nice. Good work.
betogrein (2232) 2005-09-12 10:37
Cormac (26545) 2005-09-12 10:43
I like this perspective, looking down on the river, but still showing the road and buildings. This has a lot of atmoshpere, probably because of the fog.. Well done!
ndb1958 (9289) 2005-09-12 12:11
this is great!
Amazing view from Asia. I like the dust.
Great capture ... kind of moody,
nwoehnl (122) 2005-09-12 12:18
Impressive view from your privileged POV inside the cable car, Chris. The foggy setting is well conveyed and the mixture of riverside details and urban architecture is interesting. The highways look quite empty with even some pedestrians strolling on the side.
jhm (137502) 2005-09-12 12:52
Indeed this picture with more river is most beautiful, the curve of thr high way is fantastic, but the boats op the river itst most beautiful.
carper (96) 2005-09-12 14:04
very good photo Chris,
the atmosphere is nice, the composition is well taken, the depth and the high is great, very good job,
clodreno (0) 2005-09-12 14:34
a beautiful mood in this image Chris.
The compo is also helping read it.
eco (112) 2005-09-12 16:05
superb view, I like this scene, topping perspective, good "smog" - nice details - very good work, best regards, rafal
chinchini (31529) 2005-09-13 1:42
Quant aux quais, ils me laissent rêveurs.
oochappan (22043) 2005-09-13 2:59
This shot of the road is even more impressive when you got the whole overview, what a smog here.
weswang (18223) 2005-09-13 10:49
Hi Chris, A well capture of the foggy conditions in this picture. Chongqing is also know by the city is building along the hill. A good composition and a nice shot.
pnphan (3957) 2005-09-14 0:33
you capture an amazing view Chris. very interesting angle
kclai (2267) 2005-09-15 1:27
Great aerial shot, covering the river and the city. The architect of such place are great, seeing the fly-over build along the river and making its way into the city.
Well done, Chris.
Rinie_Hoff (9340) 2005-09-15 2:44
Hi Chris, I love rivers! This is an impressive view with those big roads above the river and the peopel and the boats down there. It's going quite high up with those houses and appartment blocks. Nice composition.
Did you use any noise removal software? I see some strange effect on the second boat.
flydragon (0) 2005-09-15 3:02

I still can't believe that place !
I really have to it for real because it must be really incredible.
Thanks for that useful sharing.
Xalkida (11744) 2005-09-19 5:00
Wow! Fantastic shot from high of this unique place. I like how they stand the road many meters above the river sides! Excellent.
taivo (1843) 2005-09-23 0:40
Nice view. I did not like CQ very much when I visited it in 2004. I found it quite gloomy, dirty, dark and uninspiring. The pov is very and well captured
elihesamian (26149) 2005-10-14 6:39
pillars,buildings,highways,rivers,boats,poeple,hazy foggy weather,...all combinated in this shot with a great composition,wonderful capture,graet shot,Chris,
sarju (5324) 2005-10-16 22:00
tremendous photo .... I love the way the road seems to be coming out of the city and another road is passing what looks like a battered apartment
THere is so much of info in this photo ... I can just go on and on
tfs .... cheers .... sarju
happybirthday (183) 2006-01-16 11:02
wow, incredible perspective!
Andre-H (1271) 2006-10-10 2:34
That's quite a picture you've got there. The road looks like it's balanced very precariously above the river. As with other places in China, we can only hope that an earthquake doesn't strike around here, becase it would surely have a devastating effect. I really like the picture, though I must say that the air pollution visible in it hasn't done anything to increase my virtually non-existent desire to visit Chongqing. The angle is fantastic, and allows for a sweeping view of many aspects of the area. Thanks for posting; you've provided an interesting perspective on this Chinese megacity.

Amazing pov and very interesting athmosphere from part of Yangze river. That smog really make it special. tfs
