Taken from 1 of the 2 cross Yangzi River passenger cable cars, in Chongqing (重慶), a city of 10 million, in Western China, adjacent to Sichuan province. It was difficult to frame & shoot from a moving cablecar. The Yangzi River can be seen on the left, & is known locally as the 'Chang Jiang', or 'long/big' river. It was a cold midwinters day of about 5c.
Not the prettiest city in the world, but interesting nonetheless, imho. There are several people in red jackets, walking along the edge of the freeway on the left.

No boats or beaches here, Chris! Quite a different shot from you, and an interesting one. The lines of the roads are very graphic, and create nice depth, assisted by the fog. Good to have the cars and people for scale. 10 million people - that's half the population of Australia!

hi chris, this is a very good moody image, i love this impressive city scape (no palm trees, no sea :-)))
best wishes, jerzy
apache (1426) 2005-08-21 3:58
An impressive shot of the overbridge with the buildings. The foggy appearance brings a quality of truth to your shot.
Fixfocus (9385) 2005-08-21 4:25
I really like the mood in this picture, thanks to the fog.Interesting urban scene from China, the perspective is amazing!
pnphan (3957) 2005-08-21 4:28
I like this image. a modern city view with a light touch from the fog. really nicely capture Chris
Wirraway (1985) 2005-08-21 4:28
This shot demonstates the lack of traffic, how long this situation will last with China's economic growth will be interesting to watch in the coming years, well captured Chris.
toni_al (15875) 2005-08-21 5:28

oochappan (16582) 2005-08-21 5:45
what a foggy mist nicely framed view along this building, a curious falling tilt on top of the building increasing with the depht, the walking people looks so tiny here.
PixelTerror (0) 2005-08-21 6:25
It's... foggy ! I like here interesting details I can see like the intersecting roads (seems not peak hour) and the housing complexes, the fog creates well the winter ambiance (though today's summer day here looks like this too...), the vertical framing works well here. Somehow I believe the river is on the left ;-)
Have a nice sunday,

What a great atmosphere through the misty on the background, the people to the side give a excellent scale of the totality. I life in a small city, I'm very satisfied.
Elise_d (1943) 2005-08-21 7:02
There's a strong cinematographic atmosphere in this shot Chris. Very strong mood. I like those silhouettes on the side, they add drama. Thanks for sharing.
ndb1958 (9289) 2005-08-21 7:46
great perspective! I like this kind of city view. The fog gives a moody atmosphere.
dolin (15703) 2005-08-21 8:08
Very impressive all this fog
The pov is excellent and the framing too.
I like this bulding on the right and the depth in the fog.
The roads give the direction.
nels (2621) 2005-08-21 10:36

great angle, Chris
and superb composition
very nice capture of this fog-city
I like it very much
quantabeh (5205) 2005-08-21 16:25
you have achieved really good results here. The perspective shows really well the greatness of the city. A great mood is pervalent.
mitternacht (1839) 2005-08-21 16:26
According to the lonely planet Chongqing has over 30 million citizens and is the largest city in the world. Anyway, the photo is interesting, especially the fact that the roads are almost totally abandoned, doesn't look like the China I know. You got some very typical modern chinese urban architecture in this shot. It's actually a pretty interesting picture in that the buildings are so crammed togehter but there are hardly any people around.
greg64g (11193) 2005-08-21 16:44
This is a very impressive picture, the mood is extraordinary with the fog and the curves.
Jeppe (18654) 2005-08-21 18:09
Very impressive view of those roads in different levels - Amazing how few cars there was at this moment - but perhaps this changed since 2002 - thanks Chris for this interesting and fine view.
huynt (5079) 2005-08-21 19:11
Only fog and modern buildings. Wellcompisition. Best regards
singuanti (15250) 2005-08-21 21:48
Hi Chris. I think you did exceedingly well framing this from the moving cable car. I like how the fog makes the depth difficult to judge. The high POV is great. Well done Chris.
naxius (16685) 2005-08-22 3:40
Splendid shot Christ!
I like to see that town that seems so big..
Excellent choice to keep those persons on the bottom part..
Luan (12971) 2005-08-22 7:01
I like this one, bit different from the white sand, blue water ;o)....The mist gives such a strange atmospher to this concrete. jungle.
Well bone, excellent PoV
weswang (18223) 2005-08-22 10:42
Hi Chris, Chongqing is well know for its fog all year round. You have done a great job to show its character. I like your PoV to lead the view following the highway into the fog. The building on the side with repetition patter is well taken. It is kind of risky to walk on the side of the highway.
A well taken picture.
jmdaoudal (82) 2005-08-22 12:21
There is a nice shape made by the roads around the bottom of the building, this is graphic.
Well done volumes and lines.
I like it
carper (96) 2005-08-22 13:22
very nice photo Chris,
the few lines, of depth, the great atmosphere, the very good point of view made this till a very nice photo, very good job,
Kenny10pin (19301) 2005-08-22 18:13
nice mist and fog here, I like the composition and the height from which you took it, very good work, I like the tiny cars
maphoto (8082) 2005-08-22 23:31
Special mood and good point of view on the highways, I was wondering before I read you note, where you were to have this angle, interesting shot, well done.
rbcy1974 (20758) 2005-08-23 4:23
I like the brutal modernity shown in this picture. The size of the buildings and roads compared to the human figures is very shocking, plus the fog covering the buildings behind give it a nice perspective.
elihesamian (26149) 2005-08-23 12:29
POV,Excellent, what great graphism with a nice fading elements to an appealing fog!...I like it very much,Excellent view, the poeple there down gives a great scale,Oh!
Superb view and perfectlly composed,Thanks for posting it,Chris!
it goes to theme.
Best to You
sleon (9402) 2005-08-24 7:10
Maybe not such an attractive city as you say, but a great view here with a powerful composition emphasised well by the vertical format. Why are there so few cars? The fog adds depth and atmosphere and the people add interest.
danyy (0) 2005-08-24 9:00
Des infrastuctures très impresionnantes même si elles se perdent en partie dans le brouillard.
Un POV particulièrement efficace pour admirer la grandeur de ces chantiers.
Bien à toi.
sn00zie (2384) 2005-08-25 7:11
WOW! this is a realllyyy nice view Chris. love the mist in the background. though i would have loved to see a little more of the river. you've got a nice bird's eye view in this picture.. really nice one :)
Stepan (27210) 2005-09-05 17:04
Totally surrealist ! Unbelievable...
A incredible and useful picture to see Blade Runner's world already exists !

tongapup (0) 2005-09-05 19:57
Very eerie. Wonderful and moody. The people in red are like actors in some futurist film. Technically excellent -- love the crispness -- this photo really needs to be super-crisp.
lestans (17152) 2005-09-16 10:38
What a nice shot! Very interesting: so big streets and so few cars, and people walking there. I suspect that there were not a good landscape planning for the river bank, so people must walk along highways.
Nice to view the buildings in the mist, and a clever photographer succedeed shooting from a running cable car!!
svo555 (1028) 2006-02-12 7:26
Impressive perspective with good contrast between people and the freeway.
kryger (297) 2006-10-10 2:44
Very strong photo, perhaps beacause of almost no traffic (it's so de-humanized!).
I love the distant perspective, like the photographer was levitating over that street, somewhere in that fog.
berek (43565) 2007-02-10 1:55
I like this graphic working. your light control is very good under the foggy days. have a nice weekend.
capthaddock (28790) 2007-03-29 10:55
Hi Chris - a random find today, the fog, or rather choking smog, coupled with the eerie deserted freeway, give a ghost city atmosphere.
