The Yangzi Three Gorges between Chongqing & Hubei provinces, central China. The horizon is perfectly level here, even though the slope at left, gives the illusion it isn't. I liked the aerial perspective. Taken on a cold, overcast, winters' afternoon.
The white triangle on the left riverbank, indicates how far the river will rise, once the dam fills in 2009.

hi chris, looks a bit like norwegian fjords; this type of scenery has always been teaching me some respect towards nature showing how small we humans are compared to it;
have a nice weekend, jerzy

Hi Chris, A beautiful monotone picture. I have been dreaming to take a trip there for a long time. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the informative notes.
The boat in the picture is beautifully placed which adds a good size reference to the river. Well taken picture. Well done.

Very interesting this photo Chris, not least to see the markings of the future water level. Excellent depth and perspective by the layers of hills down the river.

Interesting layered effect you got in the hazy and overcast setting, Chris. Nice depth achieved, and a good positioning of the boat. Interesting detail with the white triangle marker and your related information. Might also look good in b&w and with some added contrast.

Superbe cadrage, c'est magnifique comme la couleur change a mesure de l'éloignement, donnant tous ces tons de gris.

Hi Chris. Nice catch from this beautiful and well-known place. The only bummer is the scan quality. Everything else is great. Good work Chris.
oochappan (16582) 2005-07-09 21:14
Good to see this before the dam is finished and nicely how you could catch the diffrant levels of mist mountains gradually fading out, well done and I like the dominating soft blue colortone here too.

Indeed through the scaning come grain to the sky, but I find your composition very beautiful, the leftside as well the rights hand the great mountains, and in the middle the river with boat.

Yes - your right - a trick of the eye ;-) - Yes quite a project and I believe this photo taken quite a distance from the dam - closer to would the height have been higher - Thanks Chris for sharing with us.

Lovely view of the repeating pattern of mountains receding into the mist. I love the overall soft blue tones. Glad you mentioned the horizon thing - my eyes had me fooled. Nice work Chris.

Oh, this reminds me a bit of Scotland or maybe Norway, very rough landscape.
I really like the layers of the moutains here, they give the photo a lot of depth. Must be nice to sail here in real life.
Luan (12971) 2005-07-11 11:01
Woow, this place looks like Halong Bay but the rocks looks higher, incredible atmospher...very nice picture Chris.

Beautiful sensation of depth created by the mist. In fact it reminds me of a scene of Lord of the rings in the end of the first film, when the brotherhood was going down the river in through magnificent landscapes. Nice blue atmosphere.
Hope the damn doesn't destroy too much wildlife territory...

Nice photo, specially considering the difficult light conditions. I find the superposing of different mountains at different levels an amazing optical ilusion.
