Slovakia has together with nine other countries, most of which east European, joined the European Union on 1 May 2004. This has made travelling between the Member States a lot easier for the citizens of the enlarged Union. In most of the older Member States of the Union we have already forgotten about border control, these countries being part of the Schengen agreement whereby border posts were entirely removed some years ago and driving straight from one country to another is unrestricted. So waiting in line to have your passport checked was almost a new "old" experience when we visited Eastern Europe recently.
Technically a small rotation, cropped and contrast enhanced before resizing and sharpening a bit.

Yes, you don't experience this very often nowadays, living in europe. I like your POV here, it captures the feeling one has in a line like that. Its nice with all the different details and the great variety in cars.

Yes, dissapointing that really, I was hoping those border posts would go rather sooner than they have. Good PoV for this one, probbaly the kind of shot that might have been rather risky 16 years ago.

ha ha, I like the photo, especially because of those nice oldish cars in the line. I also like the fact that you included the 'Bratislava' name in the pic - overall it's a very nice composition. All those little details and signs look great as well, nice capture!

Interesting picture from this new EU-member, especially for me in the light of the Dutch referendum tomorrow. Thanx for sharing!

Interesting shot. I know this border control very well :-) But I have to admit that I have not seen recently so many old cars at once. I take it as a positive sign - Bratislava is a historic city where such cars fit well. Your shot is well composed, is dynamic.

Interesting view of a border crossing that will soon belong to history too as Slovakia has signed the Schengen treaty too, but it is not yet in force. As usual when coming to borders I notice here the many signs everywhere, especially one I find always funny on the right the "Republik Oesterreich - Grenzuebergang" formalization. Interesting too is the number of oldtimers in the frame, 2 VWs, one french 2CV and it seems as well even an older Renault.
He he if this ones gets success I won't be shy anymore about posting my 1991 Germany-CSFR border rossing with fine Skodas on it ;-)
Have a nice day,

Hi Per, I was reminded of my bike trip from Budapest to Vienna along th Danube, when I saw this picture. We entered Slovakia somewhere else, and got a nice, very olde fashioned carstamp in our passports. I was pleasantly surprised by the city of Bratislava, a well reserved baroque (small) center, stayed in Hotel Kiev, past glory from the Soviet days, and saw a nice opera.
I like this row of old and new cars, some old beetles, and an old van.
