Almost the end of June and the snows are just now starting to recede. Summer here is a short period of just 2 months. This was taken very near the little town of Cookcity, Montana which is the northeast entrance to Yellowstone Park. The park is located about 5 miles away from this location. These mountains were created during the last eruption of the Yellowstone caldera. This volcano deposited ash up to 40 feet deep many hundreds of miles away.

When I shoot scenes like this, I often fail by allowing all the greens to muddle one another. You have avoided that trap! Well done!

Wonderful nature picture, well composed with many horizontal layers.
Curious that here the snowcap isn't located on the top of the mountain.
