Another view of Walpa Gorge at right, part of Katatjuta.
"Katatjuta (the Olgas) and Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) are two prominent landmarks in central Australia, dominating a flat desert. The Central Australia of today is the result of millions of years of erosion with only the harder rocks surviving above the desert. Katatjuta is an Australian aboriginal word for ‘many heads’. The rounded domes result from stress inside the rock which causes huge slabs to split off parallel to the surface. The Uluru National Park has now been returned to the indegenous people to manage."
You can clearly see the 'many heads' here. Taken from an expensive & short helicopter ride ($250 Au) but soooo worth it! Again, taken with an old Pentax film camera using Fuji film. If anyone wants to do a workshop, please let me know, & I will upload the original, which had some really bad reflections on the inside of the helicopter.
I was lucky enough to spot a few wild camels too, but had a fixed 28mm lens. Would have loved to have had my new 55-200 mm lens & digital camera here.

It is not easy to take photos from the helicopter as I have experienced it in several places. You have done a very good job here. The view of these heads is beautiful with colors, lighting and textures.

Hello Chris ,
Despite of the difficult conditions , this is an excellent view of this fascinating landscape . Especially the round rocky formations .

The aerial view is sending my eye toward the horizon which is giving depth to the composition. It is also showing the details and colors of the Walpa gorge. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

particolare immagine di questa zona desertica con le strane montagnole al centro a creare un raggruppamento.
Bello il cielo di fondo e la testimonianza di questa zona a me sconosciuta,

Very nice capture of those rock formations. Reminds me of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument just east of Zion National Park. Good lighting and good use of the shadows. Wonderful colors especially the red earth. Very well done, tfs.

C'est le genre de paysage qui me fascine, on se croirait sur une autre planète ( tout en restant les pieds sur terre :-) fantastique formation de ces rochers et le contraste des couleurs, magnifique

Woow, spectacular view of the helicopter ride. Expensive pleasure. And were you not frightened? I would be . No roads can be seen so this is only possibility to see it probably. Amazing heads, I haven't seen anything like this. I am looking forward to seeing more shots from your country (I wouldn't guess you are Australian).

good shot from the helicopter. Unusual nature here. Film camera but quality of photo is very good. Amazing desert and "heads".
Have a nice day.

Sometimes money is spent very quickly ... but you were rewarded with a view you will never forget.
A very strange and fascinating landscape. Indeed those rock domes look a little like heads. With their pink colour they contrast well with that blue sky.
Best regards, Paul
