Photographer's Note

The historic city of Nikko, about 100 miles (160 km) north of Tokyo. Taken near the famous arched wooden bridge of Shinkyō (神橋) with a Nikon D90 camera, and polarized. The temples are up the hill a bit, over on the right.

"Nikkō (日光市 Nikkō-shi?, literally "sunlight" or "sunshine") is a city in the mountains of Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Approximately 140 km north of Tokyo and 35 km west of Utsunomiya, the capital of Tochigi Prefecture, it is a popular destination for Japanese and international tourists. Attractions include the mausoleum of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (Nikkō Tōshō-gū) and that of his grandson Iemitsu (Iemitsu-byō Taiyū-in), and the Futarasan Shrine, which dates to the year 767. There are also many famous hot springs (onsen) in the area. Elevations range from 200 to 2,000 m.[1] The mountains west of the main city are part of Nikkō National Park and contain some of the country's most spectacular waterfalls and scenic trails.
As of January 1, 2008, the city has an estimated population of 92,181."

Hello Chris,
A well composed image making good use of the road to draw the viewer into the scene and pointing the way toward the snow-capped mountain. Fine technical presentation with very good colours and sharpness.

hello Chris ,
A very interesting scene , with many elements to see , especially the curve iof the street , the red bus , the moutain . What is striking for me , is the superb light ; it seems to be in summertime . But with the date taken and the snow , no doubt , this is in winter . It seemed to be a superb day .

Doesn't look like Japan in first glance...the scene is very European, with the chalet like house in the FG right. The snow capped dome of the mountain creates a fine backdrop. Like this one!

Excellent POV very well selected with this incurving road which learn the glance in the image and to the top covered of snow with the white color (well exposed) which arise in the BG. Image rich in various elements with various color well collected.

Hi Chris,

The lamposts are framing well the street and the buildings. The street is sending my eyes toward the buildings in the background which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the buildings and of the mountains. The quality of the light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Nice view of the street in Nikko. I remember well the wonderful temples there and I forgot the imporessive mountains around.
one year in China - it must terrific. What will you teach? In Chinese? Attractive composition with the curve af the road.
