Photographer’s Note

It's time for another church post. I showed the Southern face of this cathedral two weeks ago, now I present you the main façade. It's not easy to photograph, because it stands on the top of a steep staircase and it's quite high.

About the church:

Most of the actual building is Gothic and dates from th 14th and 15th centuries, when the existing Romanesque cathedral built in the early 11th century underwent a major renovation. The cloister and the tower are still from the 11th century. The Romanesque church replaced the existing mosque (Muslim Moors occupied the city for most of the 8th century and on several occasions after that until 1015). In turn, that mosque occupied the place of an older church - the first see of Girona was erected here in 247. There were other construction works, namely of the main façade, which is from the 18th century, and some stained glasses of the 20th century.

Its interior is quite unique because, contrarily to other large churches, it has only one nave, which is the widest Gothic nave in the world, with its 23 meters (75.4 ft), and the second widest nave in the world after St. Peter's in Rome, which is 25 meters (82 ft) wide. It also houses one of the few existing Romanesque rugs, known as the Tapís de la Creació (Tapestry of the Creation), which is actually an embroidery and not a tapestry. It was made probably in the 11th century and it was used as baldachin. It measures 3.65 by 4.7 meters (12 x 15.4 ft).

The lady in the red trousers is perfectly placed in the frame as if you directed her. ;D This time a more simple composition but equally effective and appealing. One can't help but follow the steps upwards with the eyes. I'm wondering if there will be WSs that I'm too early to see. ;D

PS I've now seen the WSs and am in time to edit. Guess what. I prefer the prspective corrected! (no surprise there!)WS 2 is also interesting: I wouldn't recognise it as the same building

A Igreja é espectacular e tem uma arquitectura totalmente diferente daquilo a que estamos habituados. Parece um caixote, tipo Centro Cuktural de Belém, só que mais alto!!! Mas a fachada é lindíssima.
Quanto à foto, penso que está apertada em baixo. Podias ter dado mais espaço em baixo para mostrar mais a escada e ao mesmo tempo cortavas parte do céu que se torna desnecessário nesta imagem.
Além disso, eu teria cortado ou clonado aquela pessoa do lado direito que assim como está se torna num ponto de distracção. O holofote à direita, digamos que também não ajuda muito.
Tirando isso, está boa e bonita.

PS. Ainda fui a tempo de ver o WS e juntar esta nota. Pessoalmente, gosto da perspectiva do WS sem correcção. Nem sempre a correcção fica melhor e neste caso acho que torna a igreja mais imponente.

Bonjour Jose,
une construction imposante qui ressort très bien grâce à ce ciel d'un bleu insolent. Une grande netteté et de la maitrise totale de la lumière.
Une légère contre plongée avantageuse aussi.

Muy buen trabajo con la exposición y composición, y una foto sencilla pero muy atractiva a la vista.

Beleza de arquitetura aqui muito bem registrada!
O formato vertical foi uma excelente escolha para apresentá-la!
Nitidez e luminosidade adequadas são pontos fortes desta sua fotografia!

A catedral é um pouco fora do habitual para perceber se o processamento ajudou ou não. Está um pouco estranha. Mas no fundo acho que fizeste um bom trabalho. Pelo menos para estudar o assunto.

muito bonita mesmo essa foto e Igreja, acho interessante as formas arquitetônicas dela. Nota zero mesmo só pro meu monitor aqui, impressionante como esses monitores ditos modernos de LCD são tão ruins, apresentam uma nitidez exagerada que não condiz com a real, além de uma representação de cores bem reduzida, e olha que uso a mesma resolução nas duas máquinas que tenho em casa. Uma compra ruim esse monitor da LG Flatron de 17", tenho um tubo de imagem CRT da LG mesmo de 17" que bate de 10 a 0 nesse LCD, só edito minhas imagens nele, vai entender... Ja reparou isso também?

Olá José, nunca me passaria pela cabeça corrigir a tua imagem original - talvez só um pouco para equilibrar como costumo fazer. A verdade é que acho este trabalho muito interessante como exercício e até gosto desta nova leitura da fachada se bem que talvez um pouco irreal pois na realidade este pdv não deve existir. A catedral é lindíssima e adoro a assimetria dada pela torre que é mais evidente nesta correcção. E também gosto de ver mais espaço no céu. Tirando isto, estou de acordo com o António. A imagem original até dá um maior destaque às calças vermelhas que é sem dúvida um bónus de grande mais valia. No entanto (há sempres 'ses'...) acho que ele cortou muito - quanto mais escada em baixo melhor e quanto mais céu também - só dos lados seria suficiente.
Resta-me admirar o trabalho a que te dás para chegares aos melhores resultados.

Olá José,

Mas que bonito postal da Catedral de Girona.Aquela turista da calças vermelhas ficou mesmo bem na composição, porque a meu ver acrescenta uma tonalidade forte fora da composição principal, mas ao mesmo tempo muito suave. Bem enquadrada para o espaço que deverias ter na lente. Boas cores e luminosidade.

esta é uma catedral no mínimo curiosa, nada comum em termos de formato e detalhes. Eu a visitei há anos e já nem lembrava bem deste pov que é muito bom. excelente qualidader técnica, luz e enquadramento e pov perfeitos

Ya hemos visto la otra parte de la catedral pero esta no sería menos impresionante, por su estructura compacta y diseño,
es bueno la presencia de la persona para ver las dimensiones de la catedral, la portada me gusta mucho, los colores del cielo y de la catedral hacen un fuerte contraste, bien hecho!

Bonsoir José,
Esta fachada de igreja agrada-me, porque alcoves da fachada contêm ainda as estátuas santas, contrariamente à maior parte das igrejas francesas, cujas estátuas foram quebradas durante a Revolução francesa de 1789. O trabalho fotográfico é excelente também, do qual a clareza e as cores.

Great capture Jose, I am constantly amazed at the detail of European structures, boy are we missing out on the good things by overlooking the details. Color and exposure are perfect and the person on the steps makes the composition so. I LOVE the workshops and the perspective correction works wonderfully. Great capture.

Encore un beau travail de post-traitement quand on voit la photo originale et c'est vrai que cette superbe cathédrale le méritait bien. J'apprécie beaucoup les qualités de l'image notamment dans la gestion des lumières qui permet à l'édifice de bien ressortir sur ce ciel bleu uniforme. Un architecture digne d'intérêt. Bravo José et merci pour la photo bonus ainsi que ton commentaire toujours intéressant.

Effectivement, les perspectives sont bien redressées par rapport à l'image originale qui n'est pas déplaisante non plus...
beau ciel bleu également sur lequel la cathédrale ressort bien et une bonne de la lumière.

Otra gran fotografía, nítida y con el grado de contraste perfecto. El detalle de la persona destaca por el rojo de su ropa y ayuda a imaginar la dimensión de esta iglesia.
