Photographer’s Note
A charming snake charmer!
[OK, that was too short a description. Perhaps adequate, but it is I who NEED to describe, not that the photo needs a description. I am not ready to "hang up the boots", at least not as yet! :-)
So here it goes (my response Deniz):
The throng of women were running around with their snakes, frightening hapless devotees going towards a temple and collecting money from them. Those devotees were too happy to get rid of them and their serpents. But they knew instantly what I was after. This girl said she had appeared in a newspaper a few months ago. She wanted to see her photo in the back of my camera--alas, I had only a film, which disappointed her. "A very old camera", I confessed, which brought forth instant sympathy, "New cameras must be very expensive!" But she was kind and let me handle her snake a bit. Soft snake. Curiously warm. They surrounded us and took careful peeks at our camera and lenses, and chatted away for all of some 10 minutes. Do I have a wife? And children? Why did I not bring them with me? How long have I been away? Then with some lunch money in their boxes, they ran away. A whirlwind of energy.]

A classic with such fine tones and lovely textures and a devastating expression into the eye of the camera. Lovely image Animesh.

Neither the snake nor the sparkling eyes of the snake charmer charm me more than that drowsy babe with a dropped head on his mother's chest.
Well, i cannot decide. Those sparkling eyes, i cannot take my eyes off them as well (is it because i am a snake too?)
The B&W contrast is not so deep, and so much grey tones over here, but the result is less dramatization, therefore those greys go very well, imo.
I am curious how she posed to you like an actress. Indeed, she has the natural charm of an actress...

Truly. How graceful! She appears, as most Bengali village girls do, to be naturally graceful. She doesn't have to 'pose'. And as Deniz says, the baby adds to the impact.

Animesh- pardon my limited knowledge of photography, I couldn't understand ur previous work (Fear of Others), but this one interests me immensely (B&Ws are my favs)...
The glance and the eyes hold me here- she's the got it what takes to be a charmer. A very honest and natural shot. I loved it...

It appears that the body language used by girls and young women, when they want to appear charming, is universal across cultures! I guess those big south-Asian eyes don't hurt her cause either. The child behind her makes a wonderful context, especially since your POV separates the two of them.
Thanks for all the comments on my photos...regards, Ken.

Animesh: another charmed image as well - cleverly titled. This is a fine series. I think your BW choice is perfectly apt for the mood your conveying here. congrats, c
