Photographer’s Note
This image was taken in Ngorongoro crater.
September is dry season
so the journey will be a dusty one
and the light will not be the best.
Nonetheless watching the animals
in their habitat is always an enchanting thing.
Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera. The Crater, which formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two to three million years ago, is 610 m (2,001 ft) deep and its floor covers 260 km² (102 square miles). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from fifteen to nineteen thousand feet high.
Although thought of as "a natural enclosure" for a very wide variety of wildlife, up to 20% or more of the wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) and half the zebra (Equus burchelli) populations vacate the Crater in the wet season. However, an effect of this 'enclosure' situation means that the population of Ngorongoro lions is severely inbred, with many genetic problems passed from generation to generation. This is due to the very small amount of new bloodlines that enter the local gene pool, with very few migrating male lions entering the crater from the outside. Animal populations in the crater include most of the species found in East Africa, but there are no impalas (Aepyceros melampus), topis (Damaliscus lunatus), oribis (Ourebia oribi), giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis), or crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus).

Hello Luca,
You can't get much more black and white than this! The movement of the tail adds even more vitality to the image. I had never noticed the intricate pattern of a zebra's tail before!
Very well framed for maximum impact - witty title too!
Best wishes..Maggie

No colour version could be better than this B&W. The picture is a true eye catcher and photo job quality is superb. The asymmetrical is very original and fits very well the subject. Congratulations.

Wow! Doesn't strike me as quite your typical style, but I love it anyway! It is so appealing with the close crop, sharp lines, and strong blacks and whites. Very artistic and powerful image.
Thanks,
Sarah

Hehehe...
Funny way for a come back on the stage! Very graphic, in a minimalist effect with this striking bi-color close-up. Good timing, with the movement of the tail that suggests the animal will soon run out of the frame...
Congratulations,
Marine
You seem to have enjoyed your time in Tanzania despite the difficult light... Do you have anything to recommend?

Luca,
quite the diferent view of african wildlife and a funny playing around with image and title. A humurous double posting in that respect. The graphic aspect of the zebra in detail is excelent, but what makes it even better is the bending of the tail to the right providing additional dynamic to the static stripes.

Hello Luca,
I must say that it is a unique idea executed well, and the moment you released the shutter...was it deliberate?
The crop is great.

Hi Luca,
Fun title! Strong graphics and careful tele framing. B&W suits well, I guess there wasn't much colour in the first place.

Hi Luca
Fantastic idea to create a sharp graphical shot with this tight framing. The dof is perfect and the fact that the tail is moving is a big bonus.
