Photographer’s Note
This is the cathedral of the Melk Abbey.
Melk Abbey or Stift Melk is an Austrian Benedictine abbey, and one of the world's most famous monastic sites. It is located above the town of Melk on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river Danube in Lower Austria, adjoining the Wachau valley.
The abbey was founded in 1089 when Leopold II, Margrave of Austria gave one of his castles to Benedictine monks from Lambach Abbey. A school was founded in the 12th Century, and the monastic library soon became renowned for its extensive manuscript collection. The monastery was also a major site for the production of manuscripts. In the 15th Century the abbey became the centre of the Melk Reform movement which reinvigorated the monastic life of Austria and Southern Germany.
Today's impressive Baroque abbey was built between 1702 and 1736 by architect Jakob Prandtauer. Particularly noteworthy is the abbey church with frescos by Johann Michael Rottmayr and the impressive library with countless medieval manuscripts.
Interior shown in WS.

Hi Asa,
Wow what a well chosen vertical presentation that takes full advantage of the vivid blue wispy clouds sky that perfectly compliments the striking yellow archticture.
The twin clock towers meet the sky magistically while the gentleman and palm tree add attractive scale to this fine image.

Hi Asa,
So you've been there just a few days after me !
Nice close up image with good quality but too much distortion due to this closeness, for that reason I went further away.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Asa,
This frontage baroque, thus coloured is remarkable. The captured details are precise, like in the ws. It is a beautiful photograph of architecture for which I would have tried to correct the perspective a little. Good work and excellent note. Cheer.
Have a nice day

Bonjour Asa,

The point of view is allowing us to see the details and colors of the architecture of the cathedral. The presence of the person has an effect of scale. The picture is clear and sharp. The luminosity brings out the best of the colors. Have a nice day.

Wonderful Baroque architecture which you have captured so well, showing lots of detail. The short shadows indicate this was taken at the full height of the sun, but you have handled the harsh conditions very well. The lone figure gives us a good idea of the size of the abbey. The interior shot is good too and would have made a main post for another day.
