Euro 2008 : It Starts ! Photo

Aujourd'hui va débuter l'Euro 2008 de football, qui mettra aux prises 16 équipes du continent en Suisse et en Autriche.

Pour fêter le début de la compétition, une image de Genève et du Lac Leman dans la lumière rasante du matin, avec le ballon qui les orne pour l'occasion.

Pour les puristes de la géographie : j'ai pris cette image en France, sur le Salève, mais je considère ici que le sujet principal est vraiment la ville de Genève, et donc je situe mon post à cet endroit... Désolé, je ne voulais pas relancer un vieux débat :o)

Today 2008 football Euro will start. 16 teams from Europe will play in Switzerland and Austria.

To celebrate this tournament beginning, a picture from Geneva and Leman lake in morning light. You can see too the football which is added on the lake during the event.

For geography purists : I took this image in France, on Saleve mount, but I consider here that the main subject is really Geneva, so I locate my post at this place... Sorry, I did not want to start again an old debate :o)

Salut JiBé,
Je vois que nous avons choisi le même thème pour nos photos aujourd'hui. ;o)
Et dans les deux cas, le ballon ne flotte pas fièrement au-dessus du Jet d'Eau comme il le devrait. Ce fameux ballon a fait couler beaucoup d'encre dans la presse locale du fait de ses mésaventures (cf. ma note)...
Belle photo prise au télé avec des couleurs chaudes du matin. Le ballon se détache superbement de la surface sombre du lac.

Bonjour JB, superb POV over Geneva. I actually like the darkness you achieve here, with the buildings glowing here and there under a beautiful golden effect. Nice balance bettween the ball and the lighthouse(?) at right.
I don't care much about football, but the Euro is fun and today Portugal is going to play so I will watch the games :D

C'est bien Genéve qui est visible et pas la France. Une très belle image descriptive et spectaculaire. La réalisation est au mieux, et à tes couleurs. Bravo.

Hope you can hide far away, because we Dutch are going to win next week ;-))))
Serious...i am not a soccer fan and do not care who wins, this type of sport is not my favorite play.
But your picture with typical JB colour toning is something i do like..!!!

interesting composition! There is a nice play between the dark areas and the highlighted ones by the golden light. Only a nice morning to provide that. Great shot and post-production. Well done!

this is not easy Jean Bernard,
the shot is a little dark but I like the sharpnes and the good atmosphere, a good title for the shot, and much succes with the France team.

Ta photo et celle de Bibi marquent le début des festivités de l'Euro et se complètent bien.
Tu nous offres une vue plus large qui permet mieux d'imaginer la taille de ce ballon aérien.
Les couleurs et la lumières sont très belles.

Hi JB,

That ball is doing it's job (attracting attention)- even from France. Weather permitting, how far away can it be seen? I wonder if it can be seen all around the lake?

Do people really debate where a photo is taken? What about photos from airplanes- do you name the airline's country of origin? :-))

Pour le débat, je suis d'accord que le point visé soit le lieu cité, c'est une question de logique.
J'apprécie cette luminosité naissante sur la ville.

Hi JB, What a wonderful view overlooking the lake & this beautiful city in this shallow light, the mood is stunning, there is wonderful contrasting greens, in the water & on the land, the football is a great finishing touch, just a shame for us Brits that none of the home nations made it through, you take care Wilson.

Une lumière rasante du matin qui permet d'obtenir des teintes dorées du plus bel effet. La prise de vue au télé écrase les perspectives et donnent un aspect un peu irréel à l'ensemble, bien vu !

Un joli réveil matinal avec cette lumiére douce sur les bâtiments, ou "survole" le ballon, que beaucoup d'amateur de foot sont devant leurs TV a cet heure çi....

Hello JB,
Wondeful overview of Geneve with the city being bathed by this golden light.
I like the view of the city spread out thru the hills, and also the marina and lake, but here it's these golden tones bathing the buidlings what makes the photo stand out to higher levels.
Let's just hope that in the second game France can play better and win, it would be a pitty to loose one of the best teams in the competition already on the first level of it.
