Photographer’s Note

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia on their way to Skansen on the Swedish national day.

I consider myself very lucky to have seen the King and Queen of Sweden.
I saw them very suddenly and unexpectedly, and luckily I had two cameras with me on that day.

I was just walking about the city (returning from Djurgården), and when I was near Djurgårdsbron I saw there were some people standing along both sides of the road and on the bridge, and also there were several policemen.
I asked a policeman what's going on here, and he proudly said that the King and Queen of Sweden and their children are coming here very soon, heading to Skansen.

I stayed there because I was very curious to see the procession. I didn't wait long - maybe some 5-6 minutes, and then I saw the guards riding on horses and then the carriages appeared.

They moved not quickly and not slowly, so those people who wanted to take photos did it :) So did I. I managed to take a few photos. The Royal couple was as close to me as maybe 2-3 meters (as I was standing very close to the edge of the road).

Unfortunately, all the photos were taken with film cameras (no digital cameras at that time), and I had to hurry to choose the best moment...

Anyway, this is the story of this photo :) I hope you enjoy it.
The photo is scanned from the film and the image corrected in Photoshop.
============================================
June 6 became the Swedish national day in 1983 and was previously known as Swedish flag day.
It marks the coronation of Gustav Vasa in 1523 and the adoption of a new constitution in 1809.
But the Swedish Riksdag (parliament) only designated June 6 a public holiday in 2005 to encourage people to celebrate being Swedish.
