The castle of Dover is one of the biggest castle of Great Britain, dominating the narrow passage between France and England. Situated in the top of a cliff, it was strengthened during two thousand years: the medieval castle is built in the continuity of a fort of the Iron age. The donjon is the most massive of its period.It was built at the same moment to serve as residence to king and as fortress. It was built at the same moment to serve as residence to king and as fortress. It was the first castle to make a big custom of the walls of towers, by throwing the front over walls. After the siege of the castle by French in 1216, and the deterioration of one of the towers, we realized numerous changes to strengthen the defences.
