Leer

Last weekend I stayed a couple of days in the nothern-most province of the Netherlands, Groningen and also visited Germany. The weather unfortunately wasn't very good, only on Saturday the sun managed to break through the clouds from time to time, like in this photo, when I was in the city of Leer.

Leer is a German city, located in the area of Ostfriesland (East-Frisia) in the state Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) and close to the Dutch border.
It is situated in Landkreis (district) Leer and close to the mouth of the river Leda into the Ems. The city has about 34,000 inhabitants.

On this photo you can see the city hall of Leer, built in 1894 in German-Dutch Renaissance style. In front of it you can see, what I think, is the Museumhafen (Museum Harbour) and die Waage (Weigh-house).

It wasn't really possible to avoid the rope of the ship in upper left hand corner, so I just included it.
For me, Leer has always been the first city after the German border, when on my way to Denmark. Almost every year I saw the name of the on the motorway signs, but had no idea what the place actually looked like. Now I have, so it was nice to visit this charming city. :-)
Hope you like this Leer too as well as this photo and thanks for your visit.
