Photographer’s Note

This shot was taken inside the Blue Mosque, where thousands of ceramic plates from Iznik adorn the ceiling. I later learned that Iznik ceramic painting patterns were initially driven by Chinese influence, and as a mean to replicate the delicate Chinese decorations (and that's why so many Turkish ceramic has the same white and blue patterns). With time, the Turkish added more colors and experimented with new figures, resulting in a new style of its own.
