Frozen World - Merry Xmas Photo

Photographer’s Note

Sometimes you don't have to go far for a fairytale scenery. On the night from friday on saturday it froze -10 degrees celcius here in Belgium and this is the result, a view of a frozen pond between the woods in my hometown, Heusden-Zolder. The white on the branches of the trees may look like snow, but it's ice crystals. As this is the start of a series of icey shots, I'll provide you with close-ups of the ice crystals in the upcoming days. Stay tuned :-)

Simply beautiful and makes my Christmas mood complete :) I really love the blue tone and the iced-in trees. Lovely to see the few people moving over the ice as a "proof" that it holds ... I think it is almost three years ago that I was walking on ice and the first couple of steps are always strange. Winter paradise ... super. Enjoy the Festivities, Barbara.

A very pleasant winter landscape! The tree in the foreground does look a bit overly sharpened, but I guess that was needed to bring it to the fore. Thanks for sharing and also a Merry Christmas to you!

Hi Gerd,

marvelous scenery. We have similar weather conditions here except the sun. The capture is so coloured tuned, icy cold but with that sun glow trying to breakthrough this freezing temperatures. Excellent work!

Hi Gerd,

I like the compo and especially the overall mood of the image.

It feels freezing, I think due to excellnt combination of warm colors of low sun and supercold shadows. Also excellent control of the dynamic range.
