El pasado 6 y 7 de Octubre se celebró el "Día del Patrimonio", en este día, están abiertas las puertas de muchos edificios y museos para su visita. Las próximas fotos serán todas de este día.

La Iglesia de San Francisco de Asis ubicada en la Ciudad Vieja de Montevideo.Fue hasta 1922 el edificio mas alto de la ciudad.

Si bien existía en el lugar una iglesia anterior, en 1864, como consecuencia de su ruinoso estado, se llamó al primer concurso público de arquitectura de nuestro país, para la construcción del nuevo templo católico.

El arquitecto Víctor Rabú, que obtuvo el primer premio, planteó un proyecto con tres naves, crucero y ábside semicircular sin deambulatorio. Las naves laterales poseen cuatro capillas insertadas entre los contrafuertes.

El lenguaje se inspira en distintas corrientes. La disposición de las ventanas, el rosetón y el tratamiento de la masa construida tienen claras referencias medievales mientras que el ordenamiento de la fachada pertenece al lenguaje clásico.

El campanario de la Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís fue un referente singular desde el punto de vista urbano, ya que, en su momento, esa torre sobre el atrio, con la aguja elevada, era el punto más alto de la ciudad.

The Church of Saint Francisco de Asis is located in the neighborhod "Ciudad Vieja" of Montevideo. Until 1922 it was the highest building in the city.

In this place was another church before, but as a result of its dilapidated state in 1864, the first public architecture licitation of our country was made to the construction of the new Catholic church.

The architect Victor Rabú, which won the first prize, raised a project with three ships, and cruise semicircular apse without ambulatory. The aisles have four chapels inserted between contrafuertes.

The arrangement of the windows, the rosette and treatment of the estate built have clear references medieval while the management of the front part of the classical language.

The belfry of the Church of St. Francisco de Asis was a unique reference from the point of view urban, becuse this tower on the atrium, with the high needle, was the highest point in the city.
