Photographer’s Note
CoBrA Reflections
My next post is a new one for my series of reflections as well as in the same style as a photo I posted some time ago: Impressionist The Hague. But no Impressionism today, now it’s time for more modern and abstract art: CoBrA Reflections. It shows the wall of Carl-Henning Pedersen og Lise Alfelts Museum, reflected in the kind of moat that surrounds the building.
I upload this photo in cooperation with my father, he will post a photo with a full version of the same museum, so that my photo gets a bit better to understand. Visit his version here: CoBrA in Herning.
Carl-Henning Pedersen og Lise Alfelts Museum is located in the Danish city of Herning, situated in Region Midtjylland (Region Central Jutland) or formally Ringkjøbings Amt. It’s next to another museum, Herning Kunstmuseum (Herning Art Museum) as well as a sculpture park.
The museum was founded in 1976 and has more than 4000 works of art by the two artists. The museum has also many special exhibitions, especially on the work of other artists that were part of the CoBrA-group, like Asger Jorn, of whom there was an exhibition when I visited the museum.
Carl-Henning Pedersen (1913-2007) was one of the most important Danish painters in the 20th century. In 1934, he married Lise Alfelt. In 1948 they were founding members of the group of Danish, Dutch and Belgian artists, called CoBrA (derived from COpenhagen, BRussels and Amsterdam). In 1976 he donated thousands of his own works and works of his wife who died two year earlier to the museum and he also painted also the huge tiles of the wall of the museum, which is seen reflected on this photo. He also made a huge tiled wall decoration for the courtyard of Herning Kunstmuseum* (see further explanation at the end of this note). Earlier this year he died in Copenhagen after a long sickbed.
I hope you like this photo of the reflection of the huge artwork by Carl-Henning Pedersen in Herning and please also visit my father’s photo of the whole museum.
* - In 1989 I also visited the museum as a four year old boy. Maybe it was here I found my love for the work of Carl-Henning Pedersen and CoBrA and maybe you already knew this, if you already had seen my father’s photo of me in the already mentioned courtyard. When I after 18 years again visited the museum last month, a new picture was taken, with me a little bit older, a photo, my father uploaded as WS for the 1989-version. Here you can find them:
- 1989 and 2007.

Hallo Lars,
Een prachtige verwarrende foto. Impressionisme in een expressionistisch jasje of andersom.
Ik hoop dat de echte kunstkenners hier doorheen kijken en deze foto goed waarderen.

Nice to see this picture combined with Rob's one. We are really dealing with abstract art here, but the result is very colorfull and the dead leaves in the top left corner make a very original view, sine you understand this is a reflection.
All the best,

Your love of art and your love of reflections combined in one image. Very good Lars. I can imagine this enlarged on a blank wall. I remember the earlier photo of you as a child. Looking at the recent shot, you also got your love for red coats at the same time ;D

Dag Lars,
Even op de CoBra toer, dit zou niet misstaan een een modern gallerij, misschien komen er wel kopers op af.
Alle gekheid op een stokje, het is een goede samenstelling en een waardevol kleurepalet.
Dit is nu eens het oog van de schilder!
Bedankt.
Prettige dag,
John.

Hej Lars,
the one from Rob is for sure necessary but together an artful realisation of human and natural colours. Even after some views it still challenges my eye and brain.
Nice addition of age comparison as a bonus.

Hi Lars,
I like this modern art created by the reflection. The floating autumn leaves created good contrast in texture and I enjoyed the fluid shapes of the reflected buildings. Though it may appear busy but the blue spaces provided nice breathing and resting break for the eyes. BEautifully seen and captured!!
Have a great weekend.

Cobra/Autumn/Reflections - Lars je hebt er een heel mooie artistieke weergave van gemaakt.
Glad to read that 4 year old boys remember and learn to love at that young age - now I know I don't torture my grandsons when trying to install a bit of culture in them.

Hello Lars,
As I pondered the title CoBrA, I wondered whether you had left out the "s" in "As" — Cobalt, Bromide and Arsenic. And I wondered what colors would result from their dissolution in water. Then I read your highly informative note to understand what you had in mind. Good capture, super colors.
Warm regards,
Bulent
