Photographer’s Note
Overlooking Marigot Bay on the leeward side of the island sits the imposing figure of Fort St. Louis, the largest historical monument in St.Martin. Named for the famous crusading king of France, it was originally built in 1767 to protect the settlement at Marigot from foreign invaders. The plans were sent over directly from Versailles at the order of the ill-fated French king, Louis XVI. Following the events of 1789, the fort was temporarily occupied by the Dutch to prevent the further spread of revolutionary democracy which had reached the island from Guadeloupe. Now, it no longer serves its former purpose, but the steep climb up to the summit provides a panoramic view of the island and the sea surrounding it, and the effort is well rewarded. The area is open 24/7 and there are signs explaining historical events. (Exploring St. Martin)

Hi Asa,
Very good capture of the ruins. Nice colors, textures and good sharpness. There are two spots in the left side of the sky due to dirty front lens surface.
Have a nice week

Bonjour Asa,
Il ne reste plus que des ruines de ce fort mais le drapeau français est toujours présent et forme un point coloré qui attire l'oeil sur ce ciel nuageux.
Peut-être verrons-nous la prochaine fois le panorama vers la mer?
Amicalement

Hello,
Happy to see that interests about St Martin is not just the sea as is it a so beautfull island with a spectacular vegetation and mountain ( i won't talk about delicious drink!) so thank you for sharing a different and interesting view of this castle. I like how sharp it is and the tree. But did you noticed you have a dust on your captor?
Regards
Claude.

Hello Asa
Very nice point of view on the hill.
It's possible to clean the dusts with a clone stamp; it's possible to see it in the WS.
Best regards.

Hi Asa,
It's a beautiful view, featuring a great clarity and colours. The compo is very well done. I think that those darker wide lines on the FG terrain makes the image graphically richer. I like also the white flowers of the tree, the flag and the figure dressed with the same colours.
I have already praised the clarity, but like Didi showed, the contrast could have been enhanced. The centred POV also doesn't disturb me much, but I did a WS to see how it looked with another crop more in accordance with the "3rd's rule".
Regards, José.

Hello Asa. I just had another look in your gallery and found this marvellous shot. Great composition with those little bits of colour standing out against so much green and brown and blue. Great to make the shot with the man just beside the flag. Interesting notes too, well done.

The place wasn't nearly as green this year. It has been dry. I like this point of view also (looking up at the fort, instead of looking down on the harbor). Nice detail. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,
Rob
