Photographer’s Note
Maybe some will remember my lama friend from the chanraszik gompa from Leh. He was so friendly and well hearted! This is a nice sweet memory that is brought back to my mind when i see this photo;-)
I am posting this photo today as the Dalai Lama is expected to meet George Bush in the white house and, later today, to receive the Gold medal, the highest reward for a civilian in the US, from the US Congress. China is strongly protesting, arguing that the US is interfering with the Chinese "internal affairs". China is considering the Dalai Lama as a secessionist, who is fighting for a free tibet. Now, if you look back before 1959, when the chinese army invaded the free state of Tibet, tibet was NOT a chinese internal affair... Something to think about while I am personally rejoicing to see that the Dalai Lama is finally getting the right attention... But just like in Burma, i am afraid nothing is really going to change after this gold medal and this chinese uproar!!!

Salut Eric, une image sympa de ce lama et une histoire tragique du peuple Tibétain qui ne risque pas de s'améliorer de sitôt malheureusement...
Bonne journée

No I am afraid you are right Eric, it is far too late to change the fate of Tibet. I have never been to Tibet, but from what I understand they majority of the inhabitants now are Han Chinese especially in higher places, and of course a whole generation of Tibetans growing up knowing no difference.
Did I ever tell you that I twice met the Dalai Lama - once with Heinrich Harrer (the author of Seven years in Tibet)and once in a bath.............honestly!!
But to get back to your image.......a warm smile from the lama framed well in the doorway.

Hello,

Hello Eric,
Very nice hommage and call us to mind on history. Like the compo with the red door in the background and a good note to wake us up again. Thanks!

salut Eric,

Could not agree more with you dear Eric on the topic. We talked with friends last night about Tibet as they just returned and were filled with things to tell... and am so delighted to read the Dalai Lama will receive the Gold Medal. Even if it may not have any influence on China's imperialism...
The monk you show is utterly sweet. I do understand your love for him as his face is endearing and his soul obviously radiant. His features are like Buddha's...
Thanks for the thoughtful note. His Holiness is coming to Ottawa at the end of the month too...
Warm hugs,
sasa
PS Have been away for a week (work-related trip) but am back and will visit more soon

What is free Tibet? Tibet nowadays is far more free than the old Tibet in combination institution of politics and religion.
You so-called 'free Tibet' is just a dark schemes and tricks of some countries' governers.
Many reports about China by state-run media in some countries like CNN distorted the facts or were one-sided and partial view, which have dusted the eyes of the kindhearted people all over the world.
Those indicates that many people do not understand today China and past China at all.
A POV of a Chinese, thank you.
