What's The Point!? Photo

Photographer’s Note

I don't know if anyone out there wants to play this game but I'm tempted to ask the question anyway!

This shot was taken at Zero Kilometre in Puerta del Sol - the Gate of the Sun - it was in the afternoon and the crowd was constantly bombarded with a song played over and over again.

One point is given for guessing the focus of their interest and enthusiasm and one point for the song!

There are two prizes:

One for a correct answer and one for the funniest answer. The winners can set me a photographic brief for my trip to Belfast and Derry coming up ....or for Istanbul soon.

p.s. Catch the young woman on the left who is targeting me with her mobile camera.....caught in the act!

This is absolutely brilliant! The range of emotions you have captured here is blowing my heart. To the favorites, straight away. I am studying every face here, every smile, every tear, every cry. The b&w is so beautiful... Concerning the trivia... well, they are weaving their Real Madrid banners. A Real Madrid goal/victory? The song? We're the Champions by Queen? :)

On a huge column or the balcony of the Palace, bored of the pressing matters of Monarchy, King Juan Carlos is stripteasing to show how Spain got really well united with the EU...

People are cheerful, people are enthusiastic, people trying to figure out what it is "is this a UFO? is this Superman? oh no no this is our King! Long and thick live our King!!!!

You also captured George Clooney towards the left, Kev, why didn't you mention that?
I think the song must have been "Don't Worry, Be Happy"--judging from their expression... certainly not "As Tears Go By" :-)
Love it so much, you bring us so many amazing shots, really, Kev, I would love you publish a book of them... they're uniquely yours, meaningful, delightful...

Hi Kev.

Maybe the reason why they look at this same point is the major speeching: "no more public works in the city".

But that's impossible (people from Madrid will understand what I mean).

Good idea and good photo. ALso I like the composition and the black and white.

You show us wonderful photo as always.
We can see various expressions, especially a lady with a camera.
Captured really great decisive moment, and finished it up very finely by black and white.

Typically the one to be printed BIG.
One says that in a crowd there's always someone going the opposite way : however this image is remarkable for the flawless consistency of the people, everyone is smiling and raising their arms, I can't spot the little fish swimming backwards of the fish school nor any party pooper.
Very very nice shot. As I wrote I could well see it in a 3m*1m billboard.
I've also located the girl aiming at you, she's close to the George Clooney look alike.

I'll try my luck at guessing the point, I spotted in the back of the pic someone hodling a REAL Madrid scarf, I would suppose it's the last football match of the REAL played on a huge screen, and the song would be "we are the champions".

Hahaha, great! Like the little lady to the left capturing you.
I think it was Superman. And not the fake one of the movies, no. The REAL Superman. It's like Santa Claus - He does exist, but the movies just made a farce of him. So for me, it's Superman - or at least his spirit ;-).
