Photographer’s Note
Hore Abbey seen from the St. Patrick´s Rock (Rock of Cashel).
**************************
Hore Abbey (sometimes known as St.Mary's) is a ruined
Cistercian monastery near the Rock of Cashel, County
Tipperary, Republic of Ireland.
'Hore' is thought to derive from 'iubhair' – yew tree.
The former Benedictine abbey at Hore was given to the
Cistercians by Archbishop David MacCearbhaill (in
1270), who later entered the monastery. He endowed the
Abbey generously with land, mills and other benefices
previously belonging to the town. The story, beloved of
tour-guides, that he evicted the Benedictines after a
dream that they were about to kill him, is unlikely to
be true and probably arises from the Archbishop's
'interference' with the commerce of the city of Cashel.
His disfavour of the established orders in Cashel
certainly caused local resentment. He was resented by
some of the towns-people, being considered too much in
favour of the Irish by the more Anglicised. This is
evident in the objection by the thirty-eight local
brewers to the levy of two flagons out of every brewing
and in the murder of two monks who were visiting the town.

Servus Thorsten
Love your POV here which has allowed you to frame the abbey so well. The Abbey is nice and sharp and I like very much how the image becomes hazy the further you go into the background. Very nice work.

Hallo Thorsten!

Hi Thorsten,
A typical image of irish countryside with its rolling green fields and grazing sheep.Good focus on the foreground structure and a good decision to cut out the sky as it seems it was a very hazy day.Lovely shades of green and the colour natural.Take care.

Hi Thorsten!
Nice abbey in ruins. The scenery around is beautiful and you show it very well. The cattle in the fields is a nice detail. Good composition and colours!

Thorsten,
Your composition and POV are great here showing the ruins of the abbey surrounded by the wonderful landscape. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The trees and rock fences in the background gives us many points of interest throughout.

Hi Thortsen,
Good depth of field, enhanced by numerous layers of green colour. The ruins with no ther objects around look rather impressive. I wish I could see a bit of the sky here, but I guess it was not bright enough so you cropped it.

Nice shot Thorsten, has a lonely feeling to it I think. Color and detail are great and the haze to the bg gives it nice scale. Great capture.

Hello Thorsten! Wonderful shot, I liked this view very much too when I was there and your end result is fabulous. The greens are really saturated but accurate and details are very sharp too. That lens did you well on this one.
I just posted a shot from the Abbey looking up to the Rock of Cashel meant to compliment your image.

It's a Long Way to Tipperary!
Now, what a nice photo, and very Gaelic-looking, so to say. Pity its ruined.

Bonjour Thorsten.
J'ai fait à peu près la même photo et je vois qu'avec la tienne ce n'est pas la peine de la poster. De plus la note est très explicite sur ce monastère cistercien.
Ces ruines au milieu de la nature sont d'une grande beauté.
Excellent !
Jacques
