Hyères - Rue Massillon (Post #300)

Hyères – the wonderful city on the Med near Presqu'île de Giers and the Iles d’Or. The only part of Southern France we never visited. I was equipped with a digicam now, most of my others visits to, and holidays in, France took place during my analog days, ‘Les Années Argentiques'

Displayed here is Rue Massillon, it’s one of the main streets of the medieval city centre of Hyères. The September light was gorgeous on these age old facades with their blinds and laundry. A site about the history about old Hyères is here.

This is post #300, in retrospect a mind boggling number, regarding the fact that I started some 3,5 years ago just to share my holiday pics and was curious how a virtual community worked. Was I in for a surprise! I got far more then that. I learned a whole lotta stuff ‘bout photography and post processing. The former even changed the way I look. It has become more focussed and aware, and I love it. And last but not least I got to know interesting co-photographers. Many became friends and I even had the pleasure to meet some of you. I wanna thank y’all from my heart for your inspiration, kindness and friendship! It’s been great.
For this occasion, I made an Excel spreadsheet to do a little number crunching on my account ;-).
I posted 300 pics. These pics got 321.000 views, which means that on average each pic was viewed 1070 times. Of course this number is distorted because 16 pics are or were linked by a search engine or something and got between 2000 and 9000 views because of it. In the 3,5 year of my membership averagely 250 pic-views per day took place. TE is also ‘bout exposure and I never realized how big this exposure was. To my astonishment I even sold some pics because of that.
Concerning the interactive part of TE: I wrote 5225 crits, which took me some 435 hours, in terms of productive time that would mean 11 full time working weeks ;-) and I received 10110 points, which means some 5000 crits. So it’s roughly a 1:1 relation…. and that’s the relation often discussed in the diatribes in the Forum about the point system and its underlying reciprocity. For me the point system is basically an interact-o-meter. And I value it as such.

So thanks a lot again my friends! I will shift to a lower posting speed because after my return to Holland it has become very busy again, and also because my DBA/PhD course will start.

PCS3 tech: altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and did a gentle USM again.

What a beautiful and colourful photo! Here I like especially the wonderful light with all these shadows and the many deails one can see here. Flying the flags here is great! ;-)

Excellent information in your note and congrats on your 300th picture bert. This picture is very nice. The colours of the buildings and the good light enhance the quality of the shot. Interesting scene that shows contrasts of culture. Thanks for sharing.

Tous mes compliments pour ta 300ème. C'est une belle photo avec des couleurs chaudes, avec un petit couleur locale, le linge qui pend aux fenêtres. Juste un petit bémol le fil électrique qui traverse la rue mais tu n'y pouvais pas grand chose.

En panne de sourire, je repasse.

Van harte gefeliciteerd met uw 300ste inzending.
U heeft een uitstapje gemaakt naar Frankrijk zo te zien, en daar in de nauwe straatjes een mooi dagelijks levens beeld gemaakt, met de was inclusief, leven in een wondere wereld de Franse en Italianen, goed van kleur en goede samenstelling.

This picture shows how September can be very warm. Just look at the colours of the walls. Beautiful. And what about the colours of the cloths? Ah, and that green window? All beautiful!!!

Beautiful light, and then the colors of the wet dresses on the balconies are an extra bonus for it.
It might very well be a view of a street in central Italy.
Just one minor comment. The lines are slightly tilted. You can correct them by cropping the picture.

Gefeliciteerd met je 300ste foto! En leuk om alle statistieken te lezen! Dit is een mooie foto om deze mijlpaal mee te vieren. Het licht dat op deze Zuid-Franse gevels schijnt, is prachtig. Er zitten ook leuke details in, zoals de was die over de kleine balkonnetjes hangt. Mooi werk!

Congratulations Bert for your 300th post!It is really a big number for so high quality work.I enjoy very much your photo and your note.You are one of my very best photographer that I "meet" in TE pages and the reason is not only the F10 camera :-).Exactly it is your own recognized style,in so different ways of photography,the good sense looking in every photo!

Congratulations for reaching another TE milestone. You have a great gallery of wonderful images. This one shines out from the thumbnail. The light on the yellows and oranges of the architecture makes the colours glow. From the darkness of the shadows we can see this was not easy to expose for, but you did a great job, both in taking the image in the first place and in PP to bring out the best of it. Well done. I wonder if there will be another 300!

Jij bezig bijtje ;-). Grapje. Maarre, gefeliciteerd! Lekker sfeertje hier in nummer 300! Op het eerste gezicht vond ik dat 'Spar' spuermarkt tekentje een beetje hinderlijk, maar eigenlijk geeft dat ook wel echt het platteland weer! Waar vind je nog een Spar?! Juist, in de durpen in Nederland, Belgie en Frankrijk. Mooie plaat en op naar de volgende 300!

I like very much the light in this houses, the irregularity of the street, the dayli-life showed in the hanging clothes. It's a very nice composition, with very good colors! Really beautiful!
