Photographer’s Note
One of my favorites from Mt Baker with good reason. I was up Mt Baker on the 3rd and 5th of August this month, two photos taken 48 hours apart. On the 3rd I took this photo of this ice melting in this little lake. On my previous posting on Alpine Clearing this snow/ice berg was finally melted. That is only approx. 48 hours between the two photos.
You can also see how much snow has melted since July the 7th from this area, take a look at the workshop photo. Lots of snow this year also caused serious flood concern during the Spring Freshet.
I took a few photos of this snow melting but found again the reminder to take my time in composing photos making sure the proper elements are balanced in the frame. I would have liked to see the little more breathing room on both sides of this snow / ice berg. But what impressed me the most was in 48 hours from taking this photo it was gone. Enjoy!

Very interesting to see how that large block of ice melted in just two days. I also really like this photo for the somewhat unusual composition. The little patch of blue sky reflected on the lake is cool. The shadowy lighting made for nicely saturated colors too.

Good morning, Paul,
That's an interesting composition of this partially submerged "iceberg" within the lake reflection. I like particularly how the image of the snow-patched mountain overlays it, with the little shock of blue sky as a highlight. I also like that you finally gave credit to the American side of the border for this place of beauty...

Hey Paul;
It is quote impressive how quickly that ice has been melting. Must be that great sunny weather you guys have been having. I like the reflections off the water and how the only blue sky visible is off the water.
Nice and level as well- not easy with this type of shot.
All the best Paul,
- Dan

Hi Paul
Wonderful reflections in the fg lake. It looks cold with that big chunk of ice in the water. Good colour sharpness & pov. TfS!

Hi Paul,
This is a great shot of the ice on the lake and it seems your purpose in this shot was to show the change from the earlier one, but except for that, this image seems to be lacking perspective and appeal for me. Colors are good but as I said, it seems to be lacking something? TFS. Gerald

Hello Paul -
It is interesting to post images that were captured just hours apart. I went back to your other image to see the changes and they were striking to say the least. It must have been a warm 2 days because the ice looks substantial in this image. I do like the reflections in this image and the composition hint at the sky conditions. Well seen.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Paul,
You are certainly having an active summer exploring the local terrain...I like this rather mellow shot, and your note is interesting as to the time element for the melt. The reflection of the blue sky is particularly effective here. Very fine work, Paul. All the best.
John
