Photographer’s Note
"...The Ganges, above all is the river of India, which has held India's heart captive and drawn uncounted millions to her banks since the dawn of history. The story of the Ganges, from her source to the sea, from old times to new, is the story of India's civilization and culture, of the rise and fall of empires, of great and proud cities, of adventures of man..."
source
The Ganges is for sure the major and most sacred river in India. Cities grew up around its margins and life happens in it, as life happens in the streets of any other major city on earth. People meet here, walk, talk, bathe and wash in a big social encounter. They do the puja (purification, worship) and the laundry on the same waters, side by side. Watching this unique river atmosphere is simply spectacular.

Hi Ricardo
Fascinating capture of everyday life in this sacred river. The colourful people add life and movement as they go about their rituals and chores and the compo is well thought out with the diagonal on the left and the bridge behind framing the scene.

Much animation in this composition of every day life in India. I like the diagonal perspective along the ghat. Good colours and clarity. Very good work.

You have captured so much interest in this image. We could look at it over and over and still find something new. Your high POV (from a bridge?) has allowed you to fill the frame so well. Placing the steps on a diagonal was the perfect choice. Well done

Hi Ricardo,
nice and vivid image full of interesting elements. The combination of the different clothe colors and the position of people in the frame make this shot a lot attractive and give us some kind of "organized chaos" feeling. Great job!

Ola Ricardo,
The strong lines of the Ghats and the bridge are well balanced by the randomness of the Indian crowd ;D The light is low but colors came nicely.
A good daily life scene.

What is more remarkable is the number of people you manage to put into one frame in something that is an ordinary daily life capture...

Ricardo,
The Ganges is certainly not the most sacred rives in India, but for sure in the whole world. Just by counting per person involved with this river it wins in popularity by far. You got an image that shows that beautifully. It is very interesting to watch all this people gathered in different groups and imagine their history and reasons to do the pilgrimage and washing at this river.
The composition is certainly very good, although the brigde in the background with all the people on the top being cut half is not the best. I probably would have cropped that out. The question how deep into the image.

Hi Ricardo,
An engaging, indeed fascinating shot of this ritual in progress. I like the angled view of the steps. Although you were not favoured by the best light, your exposure level is good and the clarity of detail is excellent. The garb and attire of the people is so colourful that they readiate their own light. Very fine work..later.

Hello Ricardo,
Great view and picture for sure.
But what about this bridge at the top ?I am sure that I would also think about what to about it.. Shouldl I include it or not at all ?
But It would never occur to me to take it partly. You did something I wouldn't even think of.

Hi Ricardo. You've really captured the 'buzz' of India well in this shot. You managed to find a really good POV for this perfectly composed image, with no bodies cut off in the water and everyone perfectly positioned in the frame (it is like you were the film director and they are all the extras who have positioned themselves for your scene!) I disagree with Peter about cropping away the bridge at the top. It doesn't worry me that the bodies are cut off there because they are so small - I just like the impression created of people everywhere as far as the eye can see. A very well executed photograph in all respects. Cheers . . . David
