Photographer’s Note
In this photo there's nothing spectacular - just a small stream which branches out - but in that case it's something very spectacular...
This branching out takes place exactly at a water shed and so it's a so-called "bifurcation". It's situated in the Austrian Alps on an Alpine pass between the two federal states Tyrol and Vorarlberg, called Zeinisjoch, not far away west oft the Tyrolean village Galtür in an altitude of about 1850 m.
In the linked picture you can see - a bit left of the middle - a small way which disappears (like the bigger street right of it) behind the pass. That's exactly the position of this bifurcation. The little stream runs down the left slope.
In my picture the water of the left branch - in eastern direction - eventually flows via Inn Valley and Danube to the Black Sea and water of the right (western) branch via Rhine to the North Sea. Isn't it a little miracle ... !?
By the way, the biggest known bifurcation is situated in the course of the huge river Orinoco in Venezuela. The Casiquiare is a distributary of the upper Orinoco, which flows southward into the Rio Negro. As such, it forms a unique natural canal between the Orinoco and Amazon river systems; it is the largest river on the planet that links two major river systems.

Hello Frank,
For all its simplicity I like this composition very much. It's full peace and tranquillity with lovely colours and great detail. Interesting note as well.

Hello Frank,
I love nature, and every indication of her duration causes me the great joy. In such places how then surely human thoughts are clean and bright. In such places I would like to walk about and to have a rest. The very simple, very quiet and very natural picture. Green dominates and if the audible noise of the water extricating herself from the water hole...
Best regards from very whimsical Poznan,
Jurek

Hello Frank,
The photo in itself has nothing really outstanding (as you mentionned), but what you describe in your note is really interesting. I'm sure that there are several other place in Europe that have the same characteristics, but I don't think I've witnessed one with my own eyes. So for the Learn About The World value of this shot, I'm happy to give you a green man! ;o)
Have a nice evening.

Hey Frank!
It's really a miracle - a common start that gives so distant result! You are a remarkable philosopher and photographer alltogather.

Hi Frank,
This photo is really the essence of TE; 'learning about the world through photography'! It is also a very fine photo with great colours, but most of all a photo of a very interesting phenomenon in nature. I can imagine you stood there and directed the water molecules with your hand to either the North Sea or the Black Sea, at your wish! We have a well known bifurcation in Sweden too, Tärendö Älv, which connects Kalix and Torne Älv. I have never seen it but we have to learn about it at school.
Regards
Gunnar
