Photographer’s Note

Cerro de Monserrate.
This is one of the peaks (3160m) in the mountain range flanking the city to the east and overlooking the Sabana de Bogota. It's easily recognizable by the church crowning its top.
Monserrate has become a mecca for pilgrims, due to the statue of the Senor Caido (Fallen Christ), dating from the 1650s to which many miracles have been attributed. The church was erected after the original chapel was destroyed by an earthquake in 1917.
The view of the city from the top is superb. On a clear day you can spot Los Nevados, the volcanic range in the Cordillera Central.
There are three ways to get to the top: by teleferico (cable car), funicular railway or on foot along a path.
