Photographer’s Note
Arles, Provence, France
The Scene
On the day trip to Arles from Avignon and after the discovery of the Arles market my wife and I roamed the streets of the old town. We found the café and street where Van Gogh painted his café scene and roamed some of the local galleries. We stumbled upon this one artist selling his wares in one of the local places. I believe this was captured in the place at the Hotel de Ville.
Background
Arles is a market town located on the Rhone River about 25 miles south of Avignon and north of Marseilles. Arles dates back to the Roman period and has a nice forum and Arena in the center of town. Late in the 19th century Van Gogh came to Arles to capture the light. This is also where he became so depressed and despondent that he removed his ear with a straight razor.

Hi John,
For me as a Dutchman Arles is only famous by van Gogh. He found his light, or he created it, don't know. But fact is he made his best paintings there. I have never been there, but should i go i also want to see that light, but i realise that is easier said then done.
Your picture shows good what Arles is about...art..!!! So everyone try's to pick something out of it. What i like most is that he is hanging his paintings straight, but also the party tent....very funny aspect.
Good composed with the guy a bit to the right and the nautral colours come out very crisp and bright...good work..!!!
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Bonjour John,
Belle image et bonne note ! On aimerait photographier aussi ces champs de lavande qui est sur une toile et les coquelicots... Bel éclairage et très bonne netteté. Merci.

Hi John,
Your street photography is excellent! You did a perfect job on this one. You caught the pose of the inquisitive shopper at just the right time. If you wouldn't have included him you photo would not have had much meaning or purpose and if more people would have been in the frame the photo would have been too cluttered. Well done!

John,
This image smells the south of France, it's nice.
Sharpness and colors of the paintings are excellent, and I like your choice to frame them tightly.
Very nice,
Regards,
JB.

Hi John, ouch last time i told you if i remember that you were not uploading fast but this time i see at least 5 new shots ! I pick this one after browsing them and i have to say that i like your style in PP : soft and smooth, easy watching ... i think this one has the best potential with those painting and the presence of this human, certainly the painter, with his cigarette :) Perhaps a tighter crop would have led to a more aggressive compo.
Anyway i like it a lot !

Life is hard as an artist, it is one of my passion, painting, but I didn't dare choose it as a career path, I guess I am not passionate enough about it. I still paint as a hobby in my spare time.
You will find me stopping to look and appreciate painting even if I don't plan to buy them.
A good candid daily image of an artist at work. Photo quality if good as usual with good colors and light.
Thanks John.
