Photographer’s Note
This is a view of the old engine shed of my city, Siegen. It was built in 1884 and it is one of the oldest engine sheds - being in use - of the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia. The diameter of it's semicircle is 120 meters.
Today this shed is run by a club of "friends of old locomotives" which repairs and renovates ancient locomotives. The steam-engine extra tours, organized here, are very well visited events and it's always a pleasure to hear the sound of a locomotive gaining momentum or the steam whistle resounding in the valleys.
Last week an old steam-engine, a 52 8134, built in 1943 was put into operation here again after a long time of reconstruction. Tomorrow I'll show a photo of this old lady ....
In the workshop you can see this engine shed from other angles.
Using the map view function at the left you can zoom in (please click several times at +) exactly to the old engine shed of Siegen.

A good perspective of this building. The shed is old enough to have lots of history. I find it interesting how structures like this one remain on for such long times and enrich our cultures in many ways. Your note about the old reconstructed engine is very good. Thanks Frank.

Bonjour Frank

Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hello Frank,
A very good perspective on this old engine shed with some nice repeating geometrics. It is good to see it in the context of the town whilst the foreground tracks provide good framing. Very good detail and pleasing tones.

Salut Frank,

Hello Frank,
I like this --pretty locomotives and an old enginge shed with a turntable. Thank you for shareing!
In Kyoto, there also is a nice locomotive museum with a turntable looks like yours in Siegen. It was my favourite place when I was a child. I'll visit there again someday and will post pictures of Japanese steam locomotives.
Danke Schoen!

Bonsoir, mon ami Frank,

Hi Frank,
This almost looks like a scale model, just too good to be real.
I like the views in the workshop as well. Good colors, POV, contrast and sharpness.
Well done,

Hi Frank
As promised you have given us a view of rolling stock.
The inner child within me always comes to the fore when trains are involved. I had a wonderful time in Switzerland!!
This is an excellent view of the old sheds and rolling stock complex.
Beautiful colours and delightful subject.
Well captured
regards

Bonjour Frank,
Bien vu.

Hi Frank. You bring a lot of childhood memories with this photograph. I still remember the times when most of trains were running on steam power. Today you can find steam locomotive in museum or in the hands of enthusiasts.
Have you ever been on a pedestrian overpass at railway station when a train, spewing black smoke and steam, passed underneath? That was something to remember.
Greetings
Chris
