Just like Mars? Photo

Photographer’s Note

This was taken in Reserva Natural Laguna Brava in La Rioja province, northern Argentina. We were on our way to the Laguna Brava itself which took about 5 hours of zig-zagging up the mountains along dusty tracks in a 4x4 pick-up.

The mountains in this area are like something you'd expect to see on another planet. The myriad of colours are incredible, a result of the multitude of minerals in the rocks. The predomiant red colour is a result of the large amounts of iron ore in the ground, for example. And the colours and contours stretch off into the distance for as far as the eye can see. It's a stark, but unbelieveably beautiful place.

Frame added in Photoshop, otherwise unchanged.

Hi Richard,
Beautiful landscape with only some very scarce vegitation. I like the light green color of the small bushes on large parts of the mountains. It gives the idea that there is at least some life out there.
Nice POV and very good colors.

It really looks like view from another planet (except for the blue sky). This was worth few hours trip.
I don't think you need much more post-processing here. Both colors and contrast are very good here.

very nice photo. Actually people don't influence on bare hill. But these hills seem more difference than others. I is the first time, I have seen such difference geography. Altough Your photo is very fascinating, geography is like death. When I reached to this place, certainly I was frightened ...
