Photographer’s Note

On the Postal Boat, from Mandalay to Bagan, August 1999.

A daily trip along the large Irrawaddy River, the only one highway of the country.

Along the river there were't villages, just few ones really small, but sometimes people went up and down, using small boats to take land, 'cause there weren't piers or similar.

A superb downward pov overlloking this intriguing daily river life scene. Good sharpness, & the diagonal placement of the boats adds dynamism. Ciao!

Real daily life shot, showing us the everyday life of the people whose destiny is so much tied to the river and boats.
I like how the colour of the water is different on two sides of the boat, and the fact that none of the people was aware of somebody taking a photo of them.

Bella scena Paolo ed ottima composizione , nonostante lo scanner la foto mantiene bei colori ed impatto , fa' un po' impressione il colore dell'acqua , compliments well done.

interesting take, although i think that the crop has not been quite successful... this image has the key advantage - the pov, unusual, interesting, as if it were a scanner of the boat...

The POV is great here. You showed the image with very unusal angle hence we are able to see actions of all people here. Great quality even though it is scanned.

The colours give this shot a dated feel but otherwise the quality for a scan is quite good, and it's the POV here which makes the subject so interesting. I like the repetition of the blue headclothes and the composition gives us an insightful impression into everyday life.

Well composed from an ideal POV. This is such an unusual view of these people who obviously are unaware of the camera. Crisp and clear, the scene nicely captures an interesting slice of daily life. A keeper.

So many lovely shots to choose from, Paolo. I choose this one as I love its composition, the view from above, the great diagonal you have decided upon. A very nice daily life shot of these people whose second home is the boat.
