The Temple beyond the Pond Photo

Photographer’s Note

Because some more snow images will hopefully soon invade my gallery, here a last image of spring, this is again Japan and the temple beyond the pond is the Sanjûsangendô budhist temple in Kyoto, first built in 1132.

It consists mainly of this very long hall where 1001 wooden statues of the budhist deities can be seen, the inside atmosphere is quite dark and it's forbidden to take pictures probably because of the sacred character of these statues but I believe as well to protect them from the light as I saw the people there took great care in avoiding any light to come in from the exterior.

So I did not take any picture inside to respect this great artwork, I must tell these statues are very impressive when you just try to imagine how much time it took to create them. But outside I found this PoV having the temple main building appear as a background of this harmonious small pond.

I like the balanced look, with the trees on either side and the flowering cherry tree in the middle.Wonderful impression of the size of both the temple and the ornamental garden. Joli point de vue plein de quiétude et de calme pour nous présenter ce temple !
Il n'y a pas âme qui vive, cela ajoute encore plus sérennité à l'endroit.
Ceux qui ont créé les lieux devaient avoir l'oeil des peintres car la composition s'imposait toute seule !

I like the wide angle look of this, which is distintive and interesting, and always gives more of a sense of depth and 3 dimensions than a more conventional lens would have. Nice use of the trees on each side to frame the building too. Well done!

Hi JY. It certainly is nice to remember what leaves are supposed to look like from time to time. ;) At first I was thinking I'd like to see more of the bush at the bottom but now I'm not sure. The colors are nice and realistic which is always a good thing. Nice shot!

Un vrai jardin japonais, une atmopshère de quiétude et de tranquillité.
J'espère bien que tu es de ceux qui respectent les consignes qui sont de moins en moins respectées et difficiles à controler du fait de la multiplication et de la miniaturisation des appareils et des téléphones. Pour moi aussi, un caractère sacré demande du respect.

Bonjour camarade Jean-Yves,

Brillante composition, avec grand angle bien exploité. Cette photo printanière nous montre les deux extrémités de la saison, c’est-à-dire un arbre bien vert et un autre dont les bourgeons sont plutôt timides...

Les éléments naturels au premier plan sont magnifiques et viennent «cadrer» élégamment le bas de la photo. Une image bien réalisée, soigneusement mise en scène.

Une superbe precision dans ce cliche, precision qui conveint si bien au travial si minutieux des jardiniers japonais. La composition aussi est remarquable et s'introduit dans les espaces de la composition si soignee de ces jardiniers artistes. Bravo.

Il ne manque plus que le chant des petits oiseaux. Très belle image zen, joli cadrage sur ce magnifique jardin, j'apprécie beaucoup la netteté de l'image surtout au niveau du plan d'eau qui le rend encore plus limpide. Les couleurs sont magnifiques. J'aime beaucoup.

Hello JY - I like the way the temple seems to stretch into infinity, and the mirror reflectionns are of couse pretty, also the naked branches do a good job of filling the upper right corner. The lower left is totally black on my monitor. I tried cropping some from the left, but it cuts too much from the tree so I won't post a WS because it's not an improvement on the original.
