Photographer’s Note
One of the most impressive temple structures within the Angkor Wat complex is called the Bayon and it was built somewhere near the end of the 12th century.
The Bayon is one of the most recognisable of Angkor's temples due to it's enormous stone heads. The 45 metre, 3-tiered central tower has 4 stone heads, each facing towards a different point of the compass and then this central tower is surrounded by a further 51 towers, also containing another 4 stone heads and, again, each facing either north, south, east or west.
In total there are more 2,000 large stone faces carved throughout the Bayon temple complex. Everywhere you turn the walls are watching you!
