Tenby after, and also before rain, this was a rare sunbreak early in the morning, it rained until late afternoon. Cropped from a 12mm focal length, I will add the original to WS.
Tenby (Welsh: Dinbych-y-Pysgod, "little town of the fishes") is a walled seaside town in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, lying on Carmarthen Bay. Probably originating as a Viking settlement, the town grew as a port around the now-ruined Tenby Castle, and is now a popular seaside holiday resort. Attractions in Tenby include four kilometres of sandy beaches, the 13th-century town walls including the Five Arches barbican gate, the 15th-century St. Mary's Church, the Tudor Merchant's House (National Trust), a museum with art gallery, and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, part of Britain's only coastal National Park. Boats sail from Tenby's harbour to the monastic Caldey Island while St Catherine's Island just offshore is linked to the town at low tide.

Hi Tan, A wonderful scene & your POV is superb, great colours, excellent focus & superb light, the overall composition with the houses sweeping across the shot is very good indeed & what a fantastic sky, great shadows, I guess by now you know i like your photo, kind regards Wilson.
HuseyinUnal (136) 2007-02-14 20:46
Very eye catching shot taken from a good angle and well composed. Interesting colours of the buildings, sea and the boats despite all being under the dark winter sky.
Selam ve sevgiler,

Hi Tan, very nice capture of this town with the multi-coloured boats and buildings. The storm has provided you good saturation of the sand on the beach and probably still helps to saturate the other colours. The clouds provide an interesting texture to your sky.
osmarq (903) 2007-02-14 20:57
Great ilumination, in that point, one of the best I've seen in a long time, the dark Sky contrasting with luminous houses, so well delimited from the background makes the picture very pleasent to see.
KellEy (1237) 2007-02-14 20:57
Wild sky, beautiful shadows and nice clarity.
tico_tic (395) 2007-02-14 21:01
wow, its a breathtaking view for me, thanks for sharing Tan...
SamB (1948) 2007-02-14 21:36
Nice work here, i think these are my favorite lighting conditions--low angle light sneaking in under dark, moody clouds, and you have used it to good effect here, highlighting the pastels of the buildings brilliantly against the moody clouds. You also used the foreground shadow to frame the composition, holding some of that mood in the foreground.
zeca (19762) 2007-02-14 21:57
Beautiful picture! The dark sky looks great to this view, and together with the sunlight on the city, enhances all its colours and architectures! Its nice to see the boats as well!
singuanti (15250) 2007-02-14 22:05
Hi Tan. What a moment you had with the rain moving out and the sky opening up. This scene is jam-packed with beauty with those boats and buildings. The wide-angle was perfect for this situation. I wouldn't sharpen it any more though. Fantastic shot Tan!
jmcl (14535) 2007-02-14 23:46
the play of light and shadow here is just so beautiful ..
the depth is tremendous .. all of this nature framing the soft droplets of colors in the boats and houses ..
moody (0) 2007-02-14 23:59
Thats really a top picture... 10 out of 10. Cheers, Moody

Well Tan when the storm clouds loom over a dark setting like this, and when by pure surprise the sun opens up to shine through in all its glorious splendor, it creates such a wonderful setting like this. Call it a magical moment to say the least. Excellent capture Tan. Thanks for sharing!

Great shot with the some gentle waves rolling onto the beautiful beach in the foreground. This leads to the great view over this colourful city and this amazing dark sky. Great contrast, beautiful details and great quality! Excellent work, Tan!
jjcordier (67366) 2007-02-15 1:30
Belle(s) photo(s) , Tan.
ribeiroantonio (22631) 2007-02-15 1:42
This is a beautiful picture with lots of strong colours, a good POV and an excellent dark sky. The sunbreak made you day lighting up the scene and making the colours to stand up very well. The only thing I have to point out as a minus is what seams to be an excessive sharpening. Otherwise, I like it very much.
flory (4848) 2007-02-15 1:52
what a lovely view and good choise to makes this picture when the rain moving out..the sky have an incredible colour...the light over the town/water makes a good contrast with the darkness sky...
RGatward (20050) 2007-02-15 2:14
Hi Tam, what a fantastic view of this place, great the way the patch of sunlight picks out the town. Brings back memeories this one, a favourite family holiday destination when I was a pre-teen.
tjanze (5674) 2007-02-15 3:10
Beautiful, dramatic, colorfull.Good eye leading house line through all photo.Well done.
ktanska (22712) 2007-02-15 3:13
I just love that light. And Wales might well be the best place to catch it with it's variable climate. The row of houses looks great. I might crop a little from bottom to include less shadow.
Area with the boats looks sort of restless, maybe a little oversharpened?
ChrisJ (91342) 2007-02-15 3:57
I like the lighting contrasts between the brightly lit fg & dark ominous navy blue couds in the bg. Wonderful sharpness & colour in this attractive harbourside setting. Tfs!
Budapestman (82620) 2007-02-15 5:13
Beautiful impression. It so than an romantic painting. I like the particular and glittering lights. Very good composition and superb perspective. Picturesque image. Thank you, nice days
TravelerNL (3011) 2007-02-15 5:44
Wonderful light on the colorful houses you've captured here. The light gives such a good contrast to the very dark rain clouds. The boats and the old houses on the quai only add to the mood of the place.
gilou530 (34) 2007-02-15 5:52
les couleurs de cette photo sont fabuleuses et donne vraiment cette ambiance d'orage, et belle perspective du village, bravo
PixelTerror (0) 2007-02-15 6:24
The ray of light against the dark clouds are another one of your trade marks and it is as spectacular as in previous poats, very nice village stretching its curve around the harbour, pity about removing so many boats, I went here for another crop, see WS.
Have a nice day,
sleon (9402) 2007-02-15 9:13
What a pretty Welsh scene, and you certainly managed to catch some fabulous lighting conditions. the coloured houses stand out well against the black sky, even though the image looks a bit over processed and artificial to my eye. I would have preferred to see more of these nice boats on the right so would have kept the original crop - the building really doesn' bother me.
delkoo (68) 2007-02-15 9:45
stunning light on the houses, you have archieved a strong composition, daring POV, colours are so beautiful , a very nice phototgraph.
lestans (16896) 2007-02-15 10:14
what a colorful scene!! I love pictures describing such a weather.
I like very much buildings shadows in the green water.
Light is fantastic! Dark clouds and light on the buildings. Nice work!!
Cormac (26545) 2007-02-15 10:56
Spectacular lighting! The sun on the town, while the dark clouds loom overhead gives a very dramatic look. The shadows add a nice twist, and maybe even one of those shadows is you! Beautiful!
Gerrit (43763) 2007-02-15 11:34
excellent view in perfect colours. The contrast of the full sun and the heavy clouds is as always a welcome extra.
vero07 (1781) 2007-02-15 12:15
Spectacular view of this city. Colours are very beautiful, specially the contrast between the dark sky and the light of the buildings.
A perfect shot.
Very well done.
carper (96) 2007-02-15 12:40
very nice Tan,
Yes I know the good light and the dark sky give a fantastic result with good pov's, a very nice one here, good conditions for the shot, well done.
cherryripe (21015) 2007-02-15 16:41
I see you turned on your usual light show here. First you order the dark clouds then ask the sun to come out just at the right time. The buildings and boats are so colourful. I wholeheartedly agree with JY's WS as the foreground of dark sand isn't necessary.
Xalkida (11740) 2007-02-15 16:50
I like how the sunlight is broking the heavy clouds and "painting" with pure white light your scene. Excellent sharpness and fine colors. Well done.
Philippe (11836) 2007-02-15 17:30
Hi, Tan. Splendid light contrasts. The grey sky brings out the long row of colourful houses very well. The moored boats add nice touches of colour in the foreground. Very good exposure in spite of a very special light.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2007-02-15 17:54
Magnifique cette lumière sur le port. On sent que la tempête n'est pas loin. C'est une très belle ambiance.

Nice colours and beautiful place! Fantastic light! Good sharpness!
Lovely point of view!
sanalytis (1634) 2007-02-15 21:28
Very good image, with good composition and interesting POV. I really like the color of the buildings, the stormy sky and the shadow of the building you captured in the water. Well done.
Angshu (52962) 2007-02-16 3:36
This is fabulous. The dark sky indeeds make this view with the facades of the building illuminated by the diffused sunlight. The big sweeping curve also adds to the beauty. Excellent sharpness, colours & contrast

To be at the right place at the right moment is one of the most important requirement for good shots.
I agree with this crop. It's not easy to use a very wide angle without having a nice foreground. Lighting is absolutly outstanding.
Paolo (41218) 2007-02-16 10:34
H Tan, wonderful view, with excellent quality, POV and fantastic light.
there are so many thing to see...!
Tue (25798) 2007-02-16 14:48
Such a beautiful capture of this village and harbour. I love all the houses, many of them with appealing colours. Also the boats in the harbour are nice. I like the weather circumstances; a strong light with dark and threatening clouds. A nice detail is the shadow in the foreground.
Good work, thanks for sharing!
Scharan (14144) 2007-02-16 17:24
Lindo lugar, composição muito boa e cores agradáveis.
O céu escuro cria uma interessante atmosfera.
Gostei muito desta foto, parabéns.
peter1892 (1681) 2007-02-16 18:11
Hi Tan - the light here is superb, that mixture of brightly lit foreground & dark stormy sky. I think the crop is very effective, the apartment block on the far right side was ugly (although it was far away so it wasn't too much of a distraction).
Didi (51343) 2007-02-16 20:05
Very nice picture with dark sky.
But take care because in such occasion the lights are strong; I think a little under exposure about -2/3 was necessarywith a spot measures on the highlights (my way).
I appreciate the curve of the town houses.
tigra (2968) 2007-02-17 1:08
You've chosen a great POV + I like the sharpness of the composition, the color of the sky is also impressive.
sarpedon (352) 2007-02-17 4:45
Renkler super. Gunes de cok iyi bir acidan alinmis. Hele gri gokyuzu ile de cok iyi bir kontrast olusmus.
Workshop'taki panoramik kareyi sanki daha cok begendim.
coco (30437) 2007-02-17 7:10
If I am not wrong, you selected the sky and you made a good work during the postprocessing, isn't it?
Also a nice composition and exposure.
rhizomes (15343) 2007-02-17 11:02
It's a nice place to take pictures ! I like the sharpness (maybe too strong) and the nice colors you captured !
Great point of view !
john_c (24662) 2007-02-18 11:29
A good use of your wide angle to capture so much of the rim of the bay. The lighting is very special, and I like the way the pastel hued facades are displayed here. There is great depth, and the shadows of buildings in the foreground in the water are a real treat. Well captured.
berek (32071) 2007-02-23 4:56
Merhaba Tan ,
dramatik gökyüzü , muhteşem ışık ve deniz rengi. hoş bir kare . elelrine sağlık. selamlar
rbcy1974 (20758) 2007-02-23 14:01
like a movie,
what beautiful light and colours, but what really makes the photo in my opinion is the sahdow of the church on the water
very well done
pboehringer (770) 2007-02-27 11:14
Hi Tan, perfect light conditions and the right on spot background dark sky to explore the wonderful colors of the houses and boats. But, it isn't perfect. The wihites turned out to be intense and a huge part of the shot got overexposed. What a pity.
I guess I can see your shadow there in the water.
anesugur (18783) 2007-02-27 16:58
Öndeki canlı ışığa inat arkadaki karanlık bulutlar çok güzel bir fon ve kontrast oluşturmuş.
Eline sağlık. Uğur
MarieAnge (524) 2007-03-05 10:40
Nothing to add to all those different comments ! I'm enthusiastic about this landscape, great colors with this storm light. There are the lights I prefer. Very good shot. Thanks !
banyanman (7772) 2007-03-11 1:07
Hi Tan. You always seem to be in the right place at the right time to capture skies and light that create just the right mood for your landscapes. This one is no exception with the early morning light illuminating the houses along the coast to provide a fabulous contrast against the stormy sky. I think Peter Boehringer was being too harsh in his critique. I can't see 'huge parts' of the shot over-exposed. Yes, some of the whites on the boats might be blown out, but they are so small I can't see that it matters too much. If you'd corrected the exposre for that, then huge parts of the rest of the shot would have been under-exposed. Anyway, I like it as it is and would have been proud to post a shot like this. Cheers . . . David
