Photographers Note
PLEASE, NO POINTS ON THIS POST. This is a collaborative effort, in which I took the photo and posted it, then my friend, George Grabarczyk, polonaise performed his magic in PhotoShop. The original photo was posted on 26 October 06, and his ws appeared on 12 January 07. I am, however, including the original note for its historical and geographic value.
The Island of Rhodes in the Aegean Sea is known for its walled medieval city, the Knights of Rhodes legendary veterans of the Crusades to the Holy Lands and for its immense statue, the Colossus of Rhodes, between whose legs small ships would sail in entering the citys port. Indeed, this was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Occupied through the centuries and the millennia by the Greeks, Romans, the Crusaders, the Ottoman Turks, and finally the Greeks again, it supports a polyglot society. According to Homer it was in Rhodes that the Greek ships grouped before sailing north to lay the siege on Troy.
The photo was shot in the walled medieval city, with a Nikon N90 onto Kodachrome 64, and just recently scanned. I have seen this particular alleyway half-a-dozen times, but this was the only time it was clear of mopeds, and presented a timeless image -- how it might have looked six or seven centuries ago.

Hi Bulent,
one geographical correction:
Rhodes belongs to the Dodekanisos island goup and not to Thrace.

Hello Bulent!
I like this photo, it has a mystical mood... I can imagine roman legionaries on a nightly round through dark side streets... like in those 60s Hollywood movies as Quo Vadis.
Warm regards,
Nina

Fine photo, I like the depth and colours in here. Nice dark and abandoned alley. Cold and inanimate things, not many nice plants or bushes, creates a great mood in the photo. Well done.

Hi Bulent!
Very gotic view, scary and dark, but great composition and use of natural light, well done!

What a challenge, dear Bulent!
How can I restrain myself, from not to praise my limited involvement into this beauty of yours.
The work is done by you...and nobody else.
You've been there and you've touched those walls.
And you brought this beauty to our amused eyes.
Combined with your par excellence note - it's a history lesson no one will forget..
Thanks, my friend.
Don't cease to lead us by the hand into your enchanted world of antiquity.

Hi Bulent. There is something about arches which has a very strong attraction no matter whether they are old or new. You present this series of arches well. tfs. Murray.
PS An alley in Barcelona brought good fortune to me in TE a few months ago: www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Spain/photo262985.htm
