Double Vision Photo

Photographer’s Note

Today I manage to deliver you an unusual view of the Hong Kong Landmark, the "Bank of China" building thanks to my one-evening-assistants, a band of young and joyful Aussie girls. I was standing on the Kowloon side with the camera mounted on tripod and the aim to take some pictures of the 8PM light show, while I was exposing this view one of the (tipsy) girls who were chatting and laughing a lot near me bumped into my tripod and what you see is the result of a long exposure using two PoVs, the original idea of my photo was ruined but for that I got a charming smile and a "Oooooops, sorry !".

Not a very serious post, LOL there has to be fun sometimes, to compensate the title at least is serious, an all times favorite.

Quel hasard... J’ai passé la soirée et la nuit à consulter le web pour connaitre les endroits d’où l’on peut photographier en altitude à Hong Kong et voilà que tu débarques avec cette... presque superbe vue nocturne doublée.

Je m’apprête à partir pour deux mois en Asie (Thaïlande-Bangkok) et au retour, j’arrête une semaine à Hong Kong. Ta photo me stimule énormément, car toute cette lumière des édifices constituent un sujet fascinant pour la photo d’architecture. Par contre, comme sur ton image, la majorité des références photographiques que j’ai consultées montrent un Hong Kong sous la brume et/ou la pollution.

Même avec le coup de pied Oupss!, on voit le potentiel énorme auquel ton point de vue se destinait. Mais pourquoi n’as-tu pas répété l’exercice? Sentais-tu que ton Canon était en danger avec cette faune urbaine en perdition qui ne regarde pas où elle fout les pieds...

Tu sembles être plus patient que moi avec ces zombies qui trébuchent sur les trépieds... C’est tout en ton honneur.

Its an interesting double vision Jean and if you hadn't mentioned it so honestly it could well have been passed off as one of those 'carefully planned' classics!!! The result however are nice and vibrant. Cant say much more about the tipsy girls bumping into you!! I like the lights and your intention!

Si j'ai bien compris, je ne peut te dooner qu'un point puisque c'est une charmante Australienne qui a eu cette idée?
Bizarre que la facade bleu je ne la vois qu'une fois, moins lumineuse pour la pose après coup?

Je trouve cette image très impressionante par l'asect imposant des batiments que tu as photographié. Les halos de lumière de le ciel donne une touche qui accentue encore cet effet ! Le format vertical est parfait pour ce genre de vue !

Hi Jean-Yves,
You have in an instance doubled the building mass of Hong Kong. Don't you ever show this to city planners! I wonder if I should try the same technique to make Tampere look like a metropolis.
Funny one. And considering colours and sharpness maybe the best of your Hong Kong skyline shots.

Une vue double de la Hong Kong skyline, c'est amusant... mais même après un repas bien arrosé (ce qui n'est pas le cas) je n'arriverais pas à te donner un double smiley vert. Bien essayé tout de même! :o))

Salut JY. Good telling of the "making-of" story in the note, and a fun and interesting result you got with this overlapping double-view of the detail from the famous skyline. Well exposed for both halfs of the 30 seconds :o) Nice add to your Asia travelogue.

Very unusual! It's amazing how well this worked out (and you got a charming smile too!). The twin towers look very good together, and I think they should consider building another one for real. Thanks for sharing, not only the photo but also the funny story!

finalement, heureusement que les australiennes étaient là sinon tu ne te rappelerai pas de la même façon de cette photo. Elle aurait été finalement technique mais là, elle devient du coup chargée d'émotions...
J'adore cette photo lumineuse et très graphique. Le format vertical est idéal ici.

J'adores les photos de nuits et ta photo montre aisément pourquoi..
L'ambiance est vraiment top et j'adores ce contraste entre ce ciel sombre et ces jeux de lumières des différents buildings.

Salut, Jean-Yves. J'ai d'abord cru qu'ils avaient voulu reconstruire les tours jumelles. Puis, j'ai vu que tu avais pris des assistantes pour faire la photo. Ces Australiennes manquent quand même cruellement d'éducation. Pour ce qui est de la création artistique, disons qu'elles n'ont pas peur d'essayer. Finalement, le résultat est plutôt honorable. T'avais raté l'heure bleue ce jour-là et ta photo a failli être manquée à cause d'un coup de rouge de trop.

Un format vertical qui donne encore plus d'envergure à ces tours.
De très jolies lumières qui donnent de la vie à cet ensemble.Voilà ce qui arrive quand on se laisse distraire par les jeunes filles :-)(et je suis certaine qu'en plus cela t'a plu!)

At first glance it looks like that it is only the Bank of China building which is in double. But after a careful observation we can clearly see everything in double. What is amazing in your shot is the sharpness of the two pictures. Of course the exposure time of the second picture was longer than the first. Finally, the Aussie girls are simply unpredictable!!! Well done.

Hi Jean-Yves. That would be funny to have the girls walk into your tripod like that! I love the foggy atmosphere and the effect it has on the lights. It's a lot more interesting of shot than if you had perfect clarity. Nice one JY!

JY, funny story behind this post. Something like that would have driven me nuts in the film era. Now with digital technology I would have laughed at the girl and invited her for a tea and send her later a print of yours teamwork.

Alors c'est la faute à mes compatriotes ;-)
Cela me fait pensé à une photo que Toni a fait à Barcelone (pas encore posté). Trop sympa comme les tours ressembles à des BD dans le brouillard typique. Bien que c'est une période triste sur TE, des photos comme ceci permettent de voir la bonne côté de la vie.
