No man's land Photo

Photographer’s Note

Somewhere in the Kalaw Plateau.
As the driver told: a "Piss Stop" of the public bus along the long road between Bago and Kalaw village.
A stop in the real nothing, for miles and miles.
No villages, no people, no buffalos, nothing.
Just that small group of old stupas.
And all that under a no-end cloudy sky.

Mmm, the sky doesn't look too bad here Paolo, and it seems as though someone is working the land near tree on the right. Anyway, interesting shot from your archives. Must have been an interesting trip to that place at that time.

Hi Paolo!

This is quite an exotic location I could only dream about visiting. The saturated colours appear brighter than life, but together with the high key of the stupas, they create a special effect, maybe like old postcards or asian printed promotion.

This special mood works well with the big blue sky and ocre from the ground.

You heva been in this far ploace to get this rare shot. The scan give maybe too strong contrasts bur the picture is nice with the stupas and the cloudy sky.

Hey Paolo,

it looks like a painting from the 19th century Dutch masters.
Great used of colors. A bit dark in places, the trees especially. I think thats maybe the only drawback here, the darkness of the dark areas. Pretty good for a scan though

The only pity is that the image was scanned. A really pity.

Obviously, the POV is lovely but the key, in my opinion, is this great sky!

Hi Paolo,
This is the true beauty of South east Asia. You don't have to be anywhere in particular to enjoy the beauty, its all over. You may have lost some sharpness due to scanning but it still looks good with the clouds and the white stupas standing in the middle of nowhere.

These pretty slides would certainly show better before being scanned, or perhaps they need to be scanned with drum scanners: But suppose you were visiting this place and had a new NIKON digital handy, can you imagine how striking this view would be ?
