Cathedral of the Annunciation Photo

Photographer’s Note

June is supposed to be a good choice when travelling to Russia, but the weather had decided differently and there were abundant showers during our trip. So the expected blue sky was replaced with gray clouds. Nevertheless,here ,I did my best to combine the two tones which here were the gold of the domes and the gray. The Cathedral of the Annunciation used to be one of the most important ones in Moscow. . It was built during the reign of Ivan III by Russian architects during the second part of the 15th century .

You achieved nice balance between the colour of the sky and the colour of the walls. Between those two the golden symmetry of the roof. Strong composition. WEell done.

Très joli cliché de cette église avec tous ces bulbes dorés qui ressortent sur un ciel tourmenté. J'ai visité ce lieu en plein été, c'était magique.

Hi Izzet. It might be even more impactful like this than if you had had a perfect blue sky. The golden onion-shaped spires really stand out nicely versus their basically b&w surroundings, and the symmetric framing is obviously a good choice to have a harmonious and balanced result. Happy holidays.

This is a rich place of course and a good composition. May be (but there is no unbalanced element in your composition) I would have offered a bit more of the down part to half the value of the first small towers, but it changes format and framing up.
The game of the two colors is nice here.

Merhaba Izzet,

This is a first rate photo, as all your images are. Simple composition, but perfect execution. Against the overcast sky, the gilded domes and cones stand out exquisitely. It's been thirty years since I saw the cathedral built by Ivan III (Ivan "the Terrible!?"), but the image stands out in my mind clearly -- austere interior -- opulent domes.

I like it. I think a blue sky might have been to postcardish, I prefer overcast skies anyway, the mood is more serious. The photo is wll constructed and balanced, and the subject very beautiful, especially that golden color.

Finalement c'est peut être une bonne chose que tu n'aies pas eu beau temps à Moscou, car je trouve que ces dômes dorés ressortent particulièrement bien sur le fond gris et sombre. Crois moi, j'ai des images des mêmes coupoles sur fond bleu, et elles sont beaucoup moins bien que celle-ci! ;o)
Je te souhaite également un excellent Noël en famille.

Yes, the weather may have been unexpectedly wet but the color contrast of the gold and gray is so appealing, and I really like the choice of symmetry here, the old "fearsome" Kremlin is as photogenic as Shwedigon Pagoda in Rangoon.

I don't like the photo with this excessive retouch. it looks unreal.
It would be nice to see the original one to compare it and see wich retouch will be the good one.
