A Girl and Her Boat Photo

Photographer’s Note

The Uros people live on reed islands in Lake Titicaca. (You can find many other photos of them on TE.) Unfortunately they seem to have been reduced (if that's the right word) to some sort of living museum, making their living by allowing tourist groups to visit them, view demonstrations, see inside their homes, etc.

Of course, they still do their fishing (note the net at upper left here), and they have to continually work on making new islands, as they rot too much after 5-10 years. But tourists are their source of cash income.

Great depth and sharpness. Not sure if it would compliment the photo, but, more sky may help balance the overall aspect.

In the thumbnail the shape of the boat first caught my eye and beckoned me to look closer - your POV. This is a really outstanding shot and the note is also very interesting. Thanks

Hi Ken,
Excellent perspective you got here. The girl looks very small comparing to that boat. This vertical composition works very well and a tiny view on the famous Titicaca lake is also very nice.

Nice work, i think that bringing the boat so close to the viewer with the wide angle lens really seems to send the girl way to the background and keep the emphasis on the boat, which i think coincides with your note. You composed the background very well, keeping it meaningful rather than just sticking with a shallow DOF and forgetting about it, giving this a very deep and full feel.

The wide makes her dramatic looking small in the boat, a well exposed shot detailled with even the shades of the clouds on the mountains, a pleasant shot to look at with a lot of depht.
