"Bali Fisherman" Photo

Photographer’s Note

Going through some of my older shots, and I've discovered this one.

Taken in Bali, Indonesia last year when my family was visiting from Canada. I awoke early one morning to get some shots along the beach before sunrise. I immediately spotted these fisherman out on the water on these small boards- what look to be windsurfing boards without the sails.

I used a zoom lens with a low aperature to achieve the shallow DOF.

What a way to go fishing! It's sure different than we do in the Pacific Northwest, with the water temperature so cold it could freeze you in minutes. I like the sense of peacefulness in this, with just the lone fisherman, the sea and the sky. Great colours too. Beautiful!

a very nice shot from the fisherman, from Bali. This long tool reaching to the sky is impressive. I like the atmosphere of solitude and peache. I like the silence of this image,

Hi Dan,

Very nice indeed. I am impressed to see that this kind of embarcation is used for fishing. And talk abour a fishing rodd... The colors are real nice and well managed.

Hey Dan,
Wonderful DOF, the image is so still though the waves give a reverse impression. I like the late afternoon ‘soft-tone’ lighting, a warm yet relaxing sight.

Hi Dan,

This is a beautiful shot. I love the lone fisherman on the water with the beautiful sky behind him. It's beautiful how you captured the foreground with all the details and how the background is more blurred. The black frame makes the scene pop out even better! Excellent work, Dan!

Hi Dan,
I have never seen someone fishing from a windsurfing board before, and the size of the rod is impressive. Your zoom really hit the mark on this one, and I like the hues and tones of water and sky. An impressive capture.

Yes I do like the shot as the fisherman seems to be lost at sea and trying to survive another day.
I like how the rod goes all the way to the top in a diagonal line.
Small colors around the top of the clouds also.

Well Dan it certainly does not look like this fisherman is sitting on much at all. A very interesting perspective and wonderful colors rendered. I like how his rod extends up into the evening sky. Yes I like this one alot...for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely, really... wonderful hues of muted orangy and blue colors. your DOF and compositional choices are spot on.

It would be so much nicer without that bulky black frame... :( ...
