Photographer’s Note
Place du Marché in downtown Remich, in the South East of Luxembourg.
According to Michel Schmitz of the Navigation Services, the floods started in the Vosges region of France where some 120 litres of water per square meter fell between the 2nd and 4th of October. From there, the excess water travelled down the Meurthe river and then down to Custines where the Meurthe and the Moselle river join. Whereas the floods in Stadtbredimus and Remich were indeed noticeable and inconvenient to the population, they speak of the worst flood in a hundred years around Custines, where the water peaked at 5.25 meters on October 4th at 23h.
By the time we reached Remich, the highest peak of water, at 6.53 meters noted on Friday the 6th at 17h, had already passed and we could see the water receding slowly but surely. As there were no reports after this, I take it that the water kept on going down and didn't do any additional stunts.
Even though highly unusual for this time of the year, the worst catastrophe was avoided and the levels stayed well below the catastrophic floods of 1083, when the water reached 9.51 meters in April.
For another shot (and another version of the evening) feel free to check this one out :)
As for the photo: it was slightly tilted and as I corrected that (faintly noticeable but it still annoyed my eye) the white line at the bottom left hand side of the picture came uncomfortably close to the edge. There's not much I can do about it, except wait for the next floods and go back there at night! :D Other than that, no changes.
An advance Thank You to all those amongst You who take the time to criticise and/or leave a comment!

Hello Julia,
very well captured clear shot with very good lighting, focus and well visible details. Of course, my appreciation is for the technical result of the photo and for the documentation of this disaster, I've heard about only thanks to your pictures. Tfs and best wishes!

Salut Julia,

Hei Julia,
As you and Mike both have the same scene, I can't avoid comparing them. I like how you have shown the edge of water so well. But I wish you would included the whole boat. Maybe by stepping just a bit back and using wider angle. Very nice view although less artistic than your previous one.

Excellent night shot of the latest flooding in good old Luxemburg. It is astonishing how quiet everything is. I got stranded in Namur with my boat and decided to put it for the Winter in Holland. There will probably more floodings during this Winter season. It never came so early in the season.

Ciao Julia,
excellent image with attentive framing.
A strange sense of peace comes out from your image although it documents a disaster.
A smile for your new week!

Dear Julia,
First of all thank you for the very nice critique on my cappadocia shot. It's an extraordinary place, isn't it? Be that as it may, technically my shot is incomparable to yours. The photographic skills demonstrated in your shot are simply marvellous. You've done a great job turning a disaster site into something beautiful. The lighting is truly superb, and the photo has great depth and a very interesting angle. I have no other option than to add you to my favourites, and to give you two points well earned. :-)
I'll most definitely be back to see more of your work.
All the best,
Gerd
