Irish Traffic Jam Photo

Photographer’s Note

Maybe the Irish sheep population is more important than its human population. During our 5-day walk on the Dingle Way we saw thousands of them grazing freely in the hills. When we arrived near Brandon I saw a flock of sheep being taken to the farm by a shepherd. I ran a little to catch them up and make a few photographs. ‘Nice cool day for a walk’, the shepherd said, accompanied by his Border Collie who was running to and fro to keep the sheep on the road. He then explained that he also used his dog to gather the sheep when they graze in the hills. ‘The dog has to be very fit’, he said ‘and the master as well…’

j'aime bien ce POV qui nous met au milieu des moutons. Une circulation très différente de celle de nos grandes villes mais là aussi il faut savoir patienter ;o)

This photo is nice - for me - because the sheeps are in a narrow entrenched road. Would not work in the open. The tractor, waiting, adds to the "traffic jam" effect.

Hallo Philippe,

Wat u deed met F11 te kiezen is een eerste stap naar meer diepte foto's, doe maar eens een gok en neemt er een met F16 of 18 indien het weer het toelaat en neemt maar een iso 400, ik denk dat u van u zelf zal verwonderd staan. Kijk naar deze foto hoe mooi scherp in de diepte het zeker geen slechte foto hier, want u moest al boven de schapen uitsteken!
Goed werk en zeker eens proberen!

Nice photo, Philippe - I like how your shooting perspective above the sheeps' backs really helps to tell the story of the crowded country road, and you also get a nice perspective effect towards the bending curve, where the tractor and the farm building provide further details to illustrate the rural context. Une scène très cocasse. Je ne voudrais pas conduire la voiture qui viendrait en sens inverse.
Un excellent clin d'oeil à la vie de berger dans ces merveilleuses campagnes irlandaises malheureusement si peu baignées de soleil.

Ton POV au milieu d'eux est nickel. T'as du mettre une peau de mouton sur toi pour te faire accepter ? :)

c'est amusant j'ai l'impression de voir ici une autoroute Corse un jour de depart en vacances, on voit meme au fond en rouge la police qui fait un controle radar ;-)
Une vue amusant qui utilise un bon point de vue pour transformer le spectateur en... mouton !

Bonjour Philippe, très bonne composition, agréable à regarder avec cette juxtaposition de mouton, qui se coule sur toute la largeur de la route, offrant une variété de tons vraiment très intéressante, puis il y à cette impression de calme et de plénitude, ainsi que ces fleurs au multiples coloris disséminé de part et autre de cette route qui magnifie l’image, bien amicalement

nous faisons dans le mouton, tous deux, ces derniers temps !!!
pour une fois que la voiture n'a pas la loi sur le mac-adam !
un semblant d'ordre reigne dans le groupe.
pas tres larges les routes dans le coin, juste ce qu'il faut pour jouer à sauts de moutons.

Non nous ne sommes pas des moutons,angle bien choisi pour nous intégrer dans le troupeau.

Excellent composition with the sheep jamming the road. They are pointing the way ahead to the tractor. If you had arrived earlier you might have seen the dog rounding up the sheep; it's a wonderful sight - so clever.

Great shot Philippe,
The title is very funny. I like how you got right up behind them for this shot. In fact it looks as if you are standing in the middle of them. I also like how the sheep lead our eyes towards the red tracker up ahead, with the farmer looking back towards us. This is a very unique picture.

Bonjour Philippe, elle est marrante cette photo, le titre est excellent et colle a merveille àa la photo présentée :) Cet angle est excellent car il montre la direction suivie par les moutons, on a l'impression d'y etre ! J'aurai cependant rajouté un soupçon de luminosité et de netteté.

Grappige titel, en ook grappig is om te zien dat bijna al deze schapen, met dat blauw in hun nek, gedekt zijn ... Mijn Frans is niet zó best dus ik kan niet ontdekken of iemand voor mij dat al heeft opgemerkt.
