Photographer’s Note

In Samarkand, in the bazar located near The Bibi Khanym mosk, I spotted this old woman selling bread. Notwithstanding the fact that this bread was excellent, I thought she looked very much like a madonna, a virgin icon. hope you like it

I prefer the one with the tighter crop. I don't think the space above her head adds anything on this one.

I like her pose and the way that she's carrying the bread. I think, though, that the shot could use some more contrast and could be a bit brighter. Also, I wish the bottoms of her hands had not been cut off.

She does very much look like a Madonna. The hands being cut is a bit bothersome but the beauty and simplicity of the woman is just beautiful (and also so fragile) and obscures any possible faults of the photo. The bread looks so good, a good cup of tea and some butter it would taste like heaven; fantasies aside this photo is gorgeous.
I'm usually fond of tighter crops but I like the origtinal better because it seems to enhance her fragililty in the world around her.

very nice portrait, the woman is really like a lady... a bit strange scanning or post processing though, the picture looks flat a bit and there is a strange grain... i wish you didn't crop her fingers... and there is a bit too much space over her, the composition is not very well balanced. so, a nice one, but could be a bit nicer

Nice image, even though I would have cropped it differently. I love those bread. A plave I really, really would like to see one day. In fact I was at one point planning to go thee on my bike...
