Photographer’s Note
This view shows the upper main street of Obidos, this beautiful village often seen on TE. I do not think this street perspective has been presented before, it is taken from the castle entrance. There are quite a lot of people in this frame for a shot of mine, but it's a characteristic of this nice place that it gets stormed by tourist hordes. The lower main street, parallel to thisone to the left, is a lot quieter, maybe the reason is that it does not have shops...

Hi Jean Yves, this is a great shot of a beautiful, picturesque village. I like the terracotta rood tiles, the geraniums, cobblestone street and the blue detail. Of course, it would have been better without all the tourists, but that's the reality. An impressive composition. Regards,
Ryno

Hi JY,
cool street scene, focusing not on a spectacular castle but the simple street. Im happy. To me, monuments speak little, but streets speak loudly. Nice view of the general life here, with a nice central figure to focus the story on. I guess he is a film photog, as he is looking at that Kodak flag with such interest.

Hi Jean-Yves. I like the fact that you didn't chop anyone off and you included them with space to spare. I think I see a slight blue or cyan cast but it's really pretty minor. The pathway makes for a great leading line too.

Bonjour Jean-Yves,
Bon dimanche.

Salut J-Y, this scene reminds me of some street scenes of the former portuguese colony - Brazil. I seems to me that you didn't adventure to go to there. The same architecture that you present here is called in Brazil the colonial style. Makes sense ... However, I never would see such scene in Brazil. The tourists look more casual and not everyone would expose so easily there cameras around their necks.
That little tower on the top of the picture adds so much to the composition.
Best Regards, Peter

Salut Jean-Yves,

I've been several times to Óbidos and my feeling is:
yes, it's very nice, but sometimes it doesn't seem a real town; it's more like an open-air museum, with a lot of souvenir shops, "stormed by tourist hordes". Or, as TE member Livia (lestans) wrote about a similar place: "It is lovely, but it is also on the point of becoming a piece of kitsch if it becomes too lovely".
So, I like Óbidos but I'm on the point of hating it. Your photo illustrates my feeling.
