Photographer’s Note

Newgrange is one of the best examples in Ireland and in Western Europe, of a type of monument known to archaeologists as a passage-grave or passage-tomb. It was constructed around 3200BC, according to the most reliable Carbon 14 dates available from archaeology. This makes it more than 600 years older than the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, and 1,000 years more ancient than Stonehenge .
The mound of Newgrange has been reconstructed by 'modern' people, with the materials that were present on site. Newgrange now looks very nice (if it really looks the same as 5000 years ago, remains a question)

jolie photo bien mise en valeur par le format "panoramique" que tu as choisi. J'aime beaucoup le relief donné par le ciel et le groupe de personnes toujurs utile dans ce genre de photo pour apporter l'échelle. Bien vu et bien fait.

Je vois que ce beau ciel bleu t'a fait sortir du pub ;-)
Un batiment assez space ne serait ce que de par sa forme, a le voir comme ca il fait pas du tout son age, tu ne devais pas avoir des masses de variantes de cadrage ici mais la photo est techniquement bonne et c'est bien d'avoir des personnes pour donner l'echelle.

Salut Vincent,
Grâce à ta photo j'apprends l'existence de ce site fascinant. On dirait une grosse soucoupe volante qui est venue se poser au milieu de la plaine et on ne pense vraiment pas que ce tumulus peut avoir plus de 5000 ans. Le format panoramique convient parfaitement ici et je pense que le 10mm n'était pas un luxe pour faire entrer le tout dans le cadre de l'image!

c'est bien pris avec une effet panoramique qui accentue le côté imposant du tumulus, superbe couleurs et lumière, bien la note informative.

L'endroit est impressionnant, même si la rénovation fait apparaitre l'ensemble un peu trop "lisse" et propre par rapport à l'âge de l'endroit. Ton format allongé est parfaitement adapté, et j'aime le fait que tu réussis malgré tout à laisser de la place pour le ciel. Merci de plus pour la note très intéressante!

Hi Vincent - the wide angle works very well here, capturing the full width of the tomb. I like the sky above it too, great colours which add a lot of contrast into the shot.

Hi Vincent,
A fascinating archeological shot, crisp and clear. As your note implies, it would be interesting to know for sure whether this is reasonably representative of the structure's appearance in 3200 B.C. It has such a modernistic 1970 ish appearance that I wonder...The people in the foeground enhance and the colours look very natural and unsaturated. Well captured.

impressionant edifice mortuaire. la reconstitution est presque trop parfaite.
en tout cas, la photo est tres sympa.
je connais dans les deux-sevres à Bougon (chez mes parents) de supers tumulus un peu plus petits mais de même nature.

Very nice photo of such an ancient monument that has been renovated. It's quite unusual, so interesting, as you can then imagine better what it could have been like so many thousand years ago!
Ruins are beautiful, but sometimes reconstitutions add an interest.
Belle photo bien nette, sur un fond de ciel bleu nuageux très irlandais!
Vois-tu un inconvénient à ce que j'aie ajouté ta photo au thème de groupe de Adores: Cromlechs and dolmens.
