A family in the fields of Yangshuo Photo

Photographer’s Note

This was a quick shot, after my recent post of the portrait of the adorable children in the fields of Yangshuo. This family of a mother, her daughter, a water bufallo and the dog, were passing by, while I was distracted with the kids. I was lucky to get the mother looking at them in the moment of the shooting.

Yangshuo is a gorgeous region formed by growing fields sorrounded by amazing rock formations covered with green vegetation. These rock formations, seen in the background, are called karst.

I spent one week cycling around Yangshou and everyday I thought I was in an irreal place!

This is a scanned image and that's why the quality is not the best...

Hi Ricardo.
You are right: the quality of the picture is not the best 'cause the scanned.
Anyway, I like very much.
The scene (with good depth), this daily life I mean, is really good. This is the kind of picture that is better when the times go by.
Why? Because here we see how is the people. And that's very interesting in one photo.

This is a most endearing shot, captured at the decisive moment. The expression on the faces of mother and child, the colour, and the balance and enhancement provided by the buffalo and the dog all come together in a memorable image. The karst is also well seen and appreciated. A most worthy contribution to TE, Ricardo.

Peu importe la qualité de la photographie (bien que celle-ci soit satisfaisante), ce qui compte avant tout, c'est le regard porté sur cette très belle région.

A good daily life shot this, and one that is characteristic of the lives of many people around the world. I like the fact that you caught the mother looking at her children. The moment is brilliant and totally natural. The domesticated animals and fields give a good overall atmosphere to the shot as well. Good work.

hola ricardo, apesar de la definición no ser la mejor. esta es una imagen muy simpatica y bien elaborada. me encanta lo natural que se ve y la mirada amorosa de la mamá. creo q hay que seguir el ejemplo de fernando(galmeida) y comprarse el scanner que tiene, con el se consigue digitalizar a la perfeccion. un abrazo fuerte, gabriel

Great shot Ricardo, despite that it was scanned. Captured the moment nicely as the lady and child (and buffalo, and dog...) passing by. Well composed. I read about this area of China in Michael Palin's book Himalaya recently.

good one man ... I like this one as you seem to have included the buffalo and the dog in this family which is usally pretty much the case the families in the country side.
THere are some issues about the overexposed areas of the photo ... but aesthetically, I love this photo very much ... thanks for sharing this one mate ... regards ... sarju

Wow, you spent a week cycling around Yangshuo, Ricardo. I only spent a day, but loved very minute of it, so one day I will go back and do what you did. This is definietely one of my favourite places in China, and you have captured the rural atmosphere of the region well in this composition. Technical quality is passable given that its a scan, but DOF is good. Cheers . . . David

Yes yuou are rigth the background looks so different to the rest and the buffalo too, loooks like a plastic buffalo, I like the little girl and the thing she brings in her hands.

um dos seus melhores retratos. A mulher, a neta, os animais, a paisagem, tudo está bem posicionado. A única pena aqui são os pés cortados, mas entendo que vc percebeu a cena se formando e um segundo a mais e tudo se perderia, era necessário perder um detalhe para salvar o todo.
