Photographer’s Note
I decided to post some more shots of this beautiful ceremony. Another 2 diferent ones in the workshop for you to see and have a better idea of the whole event. Today, the shots are from the begining of the ceremony, with the dervishes in the back, in line, giving respect to the profect before start the whirling.
We were not allowed to use flash while taking photos, which worked for the best: the long exposure gives a sensation of movement that would be gone had I used a flash, and the photos turned out a lot nicer this way.
----------------------------------------------------
And now, the explanation of the ceremony:
While we were in Istanbul, we had the chance to watch a whirling dervishes ceremony, at the Galata Mevlevi Temple. This is not a show, but a religious ceremony of the Mevlana sect of Sufi Muslims. It takes place only every 2 Sundays, and we were incredibly lucky to be there on one of those Sundays. It was without a doubt the most beautiful, and most moving, religious ceremony I’ve ever watched. The whole ceremony is filled with symbolism, most of it having to do with the abandonment of ego, and the surrender to a state of pure love and peace. The dervishes wear white dresses symbolizing the ego’s death shroud (coloured for women), a special hat symbolizing the tombstone and a black cape the grave. While they are whirling they lean their heads, as if they were severed, so their egos are not present. The palm of one of the hands points to the sky and the other one to the ground, so as to say “We receive from God and give to the humanity. We keep nothing for ourselves.” The whirling works as a type of meditation and the dervishes enter a state of abandonment and peace. I thought I was going to see a bizarre and visually interesting religious cult. Nothing prepared me for the incredible beauty and intensity of the ceremony.

I find out the correct coordenates where this event take place, but I can't upload them. Can anyway tell me what's wrong?
The coordenates are - Lat 41º01'40.95''N
Lon 28º58'30.15''E
and it has due with something has decimal scale

Thanks a lot in advance and Merry Christmas to everyone and a happy weekend for the ones who don't celebrate it.

Olá Ricardo. A nice series, very aesthetic and dynamic due to the slow shutter speed. This is the one I like the most from the ones you posted. I would Love to see this dance from above, and can imagine the circles being made. Merry Xmas.

Bonsoir Ricardo,

Caso a latitude seja Sul - Deverá colocar o sinal (-) antes

Hi Ricardo.
I hadn't seen this one. Of the three photos of the same theme this is, for me, the best.
The long exposure works very well, and the man in the center of the photo adds a lot of dynamism to the photo.
Feliz año nuevo.

great shot. and your note is also great! My first thought was to see some of the afro-religion's cults we have here at Brasil. Clothes are similar, so as the place and the way people are positioned. But for my surprise, it's in Turkey! Nice to know about this cult. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent picture! It captures the beginning of the ceremony, an image which I haven't seen reflected in pictures before. You can see the first steps by watching one by one of the dervishes. I love the movement. Really, excellent composition.

Hi Ricardo,
Each of your three shots in this series has something different to offer, as the expressions and dance positions continually whirl and change. I like the billowing white costume of the key dancer here and her expression. The blurry look in the foreground is contrasted with the details of onlookers in the background who are seen with sharpness and clarity. Great ambience and a true capture of this traditional ceremony.

Hola mi amigo!
I remembered you while i was travelling from Berlin to Budapest and you know why? In the brochure of the flight i found a similar photo to this making advertisement for Turkey.
But yours without any flattery is much more better beacuse you didn't freeze the movement of these dancers. I like the way you captured them!!
Nice Monday Ricardo!

Ric,
Belo trabalho.
Abraço
Paulo
